I use True Image already since over 10 years and am also satisfied on the whole. But surprisingly it's as problematic and complicated in practice it still is going on.
Current case: I have installed on the PC of my sister ATI 2010. There is every Saturday backed the data partition by task the system partition and every Sunday. Backing up running for three years. Currently about 400 GB of data must be secured on a 1 TB
Board land that goes into a tray. We will exchange the BCKUP plate so about twice a year, so there's two of them.
Operating system is something historical, ie XP 32 bit.
The backup strategy is incremental, where old backups should be automatically erased.
Backing was ostensibly also reliable, with one exception. The exception was that old backups are not deleted for some reason. I would recommend either to start backups manually, or check on-after every scheduled backup to whether this has also found place.
Friday night I was waiting for the computer to my sister, the RAM should be extended. By the way I have the Smart-parameters of the two plates checked with Crystal Disc as the computer the last time "odd teething problems" had. The C / D hard drive (a 500GB Samsung SATA) had an exclamation point in the buffer sectors, so you could assume that they would soon be broken. It was late at night and the memory had to be tested with memtest86, so I wanted to bring my sister both plates the next day by what they then did.
Unfortunately, both plates were transported unpackaged. I then the system disk connected to my computer in order to duplicate with a latest True Image 2014 version. When you turn on the computer, I could already hear the clacking of the plate. The board was now completely over. Eisfachtrick etc has brought nothing, the plate was no longer
approachable. So fast (with verification) copies the files to the backup disk on a 3TB drive and delete the backup disk. That should be the new system disk.
Having started from boot CD ATI 2014 and first opened the final system and then the last data backup. Here the first error message: "Backup not qültig" or "This is not the last sentence of the backup" or "backup can not be opened". So again with the
installed version of ATI tried to then reposition the drives. In this version, similar-sounding error messages online bug tracking no results.
According to Acronis website ATI 2014, should be able to read backups with 2010, which was definitely the case with any of the backups. "Bind possibly securing the Mount a" tells the boot CD. Only you can mount it using the no backups.
Then with 5 different boot CD releases of the 2010 version tries to boot the computer. Every visit to the copied backup partition of the computer crashes. OK, so try on the laptop with USB-SATA adapters. Unfortunately there the disks are not recognized.
So the ATI uninstalled 2014 version on the PC and installed in 2010. Software starts and rushes back to the same place as the boot CD from, so when reading the backups on the 3TB drive. Well, Version 2010 is a bit older and exactly ATI 2010 crashes probably from reading of 3 TB drives. Control on the laptop shows the same result. So copies the contents of the backup disk to a 2 TB disk and lo and behold, now the backup is readable. But now I sit for 14 clock on the problem and the clock 1 shows clock night.
I start the restore to the now deleted 1TB disk. But this record captures unfortunately fiepsen and clacking on. CrystalDiskMark now also reports this drive as defective. At two clock in the morning ordered a new disk at Amazon and off to bed.
Amazon failed to deliver despite Morning Express. The appointment is on Monday at 6 clock still on "shipped" and from Monday is now Tuesday become. Since I'm on vacation.
So the Center around the corner running through the snow and bought the same 1 TB 70 EUR instead of 60 EUR. And then everything goes very quickly. System partition can be restored and even the data. All right again - logically at the time of the last backup. Duration: 3 hours for 600 GB, which is faster than the test restore I made the day before. It all comes through without any problems.
Uninstall Now on my PC True Image 2010. and install 2014. After two restarts. But where are my backup tasks and the references to the old backup? The disappeared. Big nuisance.
So the Acronis also restore folders from the last backup yet. And now my PC is working well again and the tasks are back.
Conclusion:
0 point for the poor compatibility one can believe the backups are faulty, what not is not the case.
1 point errors that lead nowhere and lack of user-friendliness. Much-easy should the surface not reshape with every update but to focus on the functionality?
3 points for, "I know of no software that is affordable and makes it better."
5 points for that restoring ultimately works, what is the most important.
In sum, therefore 3-4 points. Depending on how you look at it.
