I have "Red Orchestra 2 - Heroes of Stalingrad" bought a few days ago and must say that I am very impressed. Previous Red Orchestra 1 I have in my collection. This excelled even by the fact that they often had to travel long distances in the infantry to get into the fight because often were not enough vehicles available. But when the successor of this issue is resolved, because you fight anyway on a few hundred meters floor a relentless urban combat. This time there is also the single-player mode with two campaigns (German and Russian). In late 1942 the German army attacked the city of Stalingrad on the Volga. The German campaign focuses on the attack and extends to the encirclement. I can not say anything because I have not yet begun on the Russian campaign. They probably will but to deal with the destruction of the 6th Army in Stalingrad by the Red Army. The command system in Red Orchestra 2 is worked out brilliantly. The soldiers follow all instructions very carefully and go for example also by itself in coverage. Man himself may also at each corner or barricade or a protective wall for cover to go with the special cover key. Furthermore, the movements of the soldiers seem very genuine and all the weapons and vehicles are historically accurate. The only criticism of the weapons would possibly be the quite high number of machine carbine 42, which actually was just a prototype. The support system in the game is also very well done. Artillery, mortar, air reconnaissance, missile and other are the squad leaders and commander available. Well, I also think that during the German campaign also repeatedly held a few training missions for the operation of various weapons and weapons systems. Otherwise, one could say for single-player mode that some missions are too short (such as the tank battle at the airfield Gumrak). What Red Orchestra 2 is different from traditional FPS games, is the high realism (weapons rebounds, stopping power), the re-enter in the campaign than other squad members and the dynamics of the missions. If the own troops will overrun for example, you will be automatically moved to the next line of defense, which was shown at the meeting. Ie. It is not asked stubborn and monotonous procedure as for first person shooters.
Nevertheless, the heart of the Red Orchestra 2 multiplayer. This is also very well done and includes the high degree of realism, the cover system and the fire support. But you have to not only fight as an infantryman in Stalingrad, but can also fight in tank battles or support the infantry. There is also a scoring system in which one can ascend. When enough Kills has a gun, you will unlock upgrades. In addition, captured weapons can be unlocked. In addition also is the fact that there are very many weapons classes. This reflects the diversity of the game.
Red Orchestra 2 is not a pure first-person shooter. Anyone who buys this game, about it should be clear that the handling of weapons is much more difficult and especially a lot of emphasis is placed on tactical approach. Who wants to cross a street or an open field, should only times secure the area and can provide fire protection (or even fire his comrades and then give move up. I personally like this type of shooter because you only once have to think before acting and directing here not enshrined script the game. However, I often play such a relatively realistic games and would anyway cross without fire protection or security no road. Who prefers to play action shooter, so you should stay away from here. Otherwise, I just made a small mistake at the grenades noticed. The anti-tank grenades in the game look for magnetic anti-tank mines, but nevertheless cast and have an impact fuse. I understand you had to attach but these mines directly at an enemy tank and then remove quickly. In the end I have to say that no computer game can cover the reality of war completely and maybe even should not, however.
