Few classical pieces seem to have been often recorded as Beethoven's 5th Given the individual taste preferences of classical lovers to call nevertheless a single recording for reference sounds at least dared. However, I would venture an explanation: Musically captures in recording, the so stunningly well-executed basic motive of the symphony, namely the incredible momentum, the unflagging Vorwartsdrang. The contrasts between loud and quiet passages are clearly more elaborated than in other recordings. The interpretation is amazing pictorially, one believes in the individual passages feel what conductor and orchestra would like to inform the public. This is of course not only C. Kleiber attributable but succeeds naturally only by excellent launched Vienna Philharmonic in conjunction with a mixer, a recording quality brings both an excellent balance between the individual orchestra groups concluded that I still want to call perfectly well by today's standards (SACD left out). As an interested layman I can use numerous interpretations (including Karajan Gold Series of DG, Zinman recording after Beethoven's metronome markings, etc.) to a CD and concerts by renowned orchestras to compare. If no, I felt like I possess at Kleiber recording: So and just the piece should sound. Maybe are you also so .... Another tip for the first hearing: Make your - hopefully very good - conditioning loud, build tolerant neighbors and listen to the symphony at rest at a time.
