The Serpent's Egg (Audio CD)

Customer Review

The album is chronologically between Aion and Within the Realms of a Dying Sun. It has medieval elements-associations of the former and the quiet atmosphere (but not so gloomy) as "Within the ...").
Some tracks are accompanied by a kind of church organ (The Host of Seraphim) and "Severance" one of the best tracks of the duo at all + a vocal magic moment of Brendan Perry. In these two pieces, the mood is as sacred, the Weltempfänger radio one could believe that it was a church service broadcast of a distant unknown country unknowingly also.
- "Orbis de Ignis" it sounds like a kind of trumped Gregorian Chant (only vocals and the bell that could be heard on Aion.
- "The Writing of My Fathers Hand" is a ballad of Lisa Gerrard and sounds almost unearthly. Almost too beautiful to audition a guest for my taste or to the one who does not know the group. Similarly, "almost too good to be true" sound of the vocal track "Song of Sophia". For lovers female Heavenly Voices probably a pleasure.
"Mother Tongue" has a monotonous percussion background, a string accompaniment and Lisa's voice. However, the percussion is not as bombastic as loud on "Spleen and Ideal"
- "Ulysses" worn by Perry's voice has Harpsichord / string elements that structure themselves rhythmically.
The group has (had) really a good image: For their recordings they ran a lot of time, perfectly produced. You can sort your music hard fans of ethnic sounds, goths, ... instead of 5 only 4 stars because 35 minutes new music in the age of the CD (and long pauses between releases) is not exactly a lot.
