Preface: This review is very long and is aimed primarily at people who are interested in details about the app control this machine, or perhaps even also have the machine already and are looking for advice on this topic. Who just looking for a rough and superficial glance, is somewhere safe fast find by Googling.

After (a robotic vacuum) I pronounced my last domestic appliance from Samsung with both the hardware and with the support of the manufacturer, then, shall we say, very carefully, "marbled" had made experiences (s. See also my review of robotic vacuum SR8981 ), I had really made up my mind, nothing more to buy Samsung. But when my wife and I saw (both technology and gadget fans) this part here in the local retail, was clear: "What interests me my talk yesterday ?!" ;-)

The main focus of my review is on the integration of the machine into the network, which certainly is of course the selling point par excellence. But more about that later.

To the same to take the only criticism of the machine first: The price is in spite of the implemented features of course extremely hard. Especially as Samsung in the field of white goods a premium quality, at least in this country in my opinion has yet to develop. We have the machine most likely not buy if it does not currently exist a promo action, where the purchase of a Samsung Galaxy S5 to get, which I though itself does not need it but for just 500, - can sell, so that the price minus the nearly 500, -. then ultimately classifies in an area which is to be paid to other high-quality washers. Without this action we would very likely not buy the machine, and I guess when the action is over, Samsung will have to adjust the price by about this difference, sooner or later, if you still want to sell a few more units.

The machine itself would be easy in shorthand just to say: "WOW!" The part is alone optically by its size (height standard, but is significantly lower than normal WaMa's) and of course the touch screen as a central control element an absolutely unique phenomenon. There may be other machines that dispense automatically or even can be integrated into the network (Miele has there also a solution for), but these machines see halt all pending just like washing machines just always looked. Maybe even with a cooler display, but nevertheless with tens Knöppen. And if weight says something about the quality of such a machine - it does not lack. The suppliers had their hands full, to drag the part. I asked one of them if it unless heavier than "normal" washing machines. He just smiled tortured ... :-)

Now to the main aspect of my review - the integration into the home network. This of course had to be done before the first wash. "Had to," rather than in the sense that the machine would not even wash without a network connection. But that would obviously be extremely uncool ... :)

The machine has an internal WLAN interface. Since the machine is in the laundry room with us (yes, I know, actually too good for), I was already before the delivery realized that I had to bring the network to the basement of some kind. I had prepared myself for complicated cabling orgies or even PowerLAN experiments, however, was able to discover to my surprise that the installation of a wireless repeater (a AVM 310E in my case) is already sufficient directly in the laundry room. There are 2 floors between the laundry room and my study, where the wireless router is. The whole thing is probably favored by the fact that the laundry room is located in a straight line just below the Home Office. When Speedtest means logged onto repeater notebook I reach my 150Mb line yet so about 5 MB / s downstream, which, more than sufficient for the status messages that sent the machine. Because I need the repeater otherwise, I have then another AVM Powerline 546 for the cellar - worried adapter - this has a looped outlet can measure the power consumption of the connected device and can be, even though it really is a powerline adapter, also operate in a pure wireless repeater mode.

In the network menu, the machine will list all wireless networks detected. After selecting the appropriate SSID prompts for the password, and that's it actually has - the machine is in power. Important for people where the machine is in an accessible to other area: The password you entered can be then of course do not show, and when the machine is disconnected from the network, the Wi-Fi password must be entered again. WPA2 is naturally supported. After this was done, I conducted a search by for updates. Pre-installed firmware was 5055. This was updated in three steps to version 5058. An automatic update function to install new versions automatically - in case I had until now not yet.

Now the app (currently only available for Android, iOS will follow later in 2014): Here it is important to know that there are two different Samsung Apps. The original app called "Smart Washer"; with this began the whole concept in the domestic market and in the US apparently already last year, and these will be offered in PlayStore also remains. There are now but as an alternative the "smart home" - app. This has two advantages: On the one hand there has been a fundamental disadvantage of the "Smart Washer" - App is that the washing process has been launched on the App absolutely must be in order for the app status information from the machine receives. In other words: If the washing process started normally via the display of the machine (which is likely to be the norm) is that complete control app nonexistent and the whole therefore completely useless. This has already been criticized in some previous reviews on this machine. With the "smart home" - the app is no longer so - you can here while optionally also start the washing process on the app, but you can start directly at the machine it just as well, and the app shows nevertheless the progress. The second advantage is that in this app in the future more devices are to be integrated. Already today there is a side-by-side refrigerator (Cost: 4000, -), which can communicate with the app. In other markets, there are also even a dryer, and planned are things like smart lamps and robotic vacuum.

The machine must be set which of the two apps you use. For "Smart Washer" - done app has a registry of the machine on a dedicated website (based on the MAC address), what with me but failed. At some point I realized then but that this step really just only for "Smart Washer" - App is necessary that before I did not want to use for the above reasons. When using the "smart home" - the app flow is such that it enables the machine with the menu item "Easy Connection" in a mode in which it is for 5 minutes even to a wireless access point. Now you start from within the app, a search for devices. The app separates then the standard Wi-Fi connection on your smartphone and search for the Access Point in the washing machine. If it finds this, it provides a direct wireless connection to the machine. This happened apparently to make the smart phone in the machine "known", because this is only once necessary. When the process is completed, this direct connection is disconnected, and machine and Smartphone reconnect to the normal home wireless. Positive enough, you can do this with any number of smartphones / tablets make (at least I guess that; I have been 3 devices coupled). This will also get all the same the status messages of the machine.

You still choose to Last but not least must be in the machine, with which of the two apps you want to work, that is, there is then also "Smart Washer" and "Smart Home" to choose from. For these reasons it makes no sense as I said, the "Smart Washer" - to use app; I recommend here so to take advantage from the outset "smart home". The chapters in the manual, which deals with the registration of the machine on this particular site, you can then ignore as I said.

In subsequent operation, then you have the choice of whether the app should only receive the status message of the machine (actual wash cycle, maturity), or whether you want to control the washing process with the app. For the latter, you have to activate the machine the "Smart Control". As a result, the lid closed and the machine is locked from any local operation. An operator, so the same well as the selection of the washing program and the start is possible only via the app. In my view, does not really make much sense. To start the wash program are in the app exactly the same options as on the device display is available, and the only difference during washing is then actually only that you can also pause or prematurely terminate the wash program in the app, which otherwise, of course, is possible on the device. I can think of no situation where you would want, so I think "Smart Control" makes little sense. In daily practice, we start the wash programs normally locally on the machine, and the app is only used in order to learn about the progress.

Incidentally, the app does not have to run in order to inform about the program end. About the push messages from Android system, a message in the status bar after closing the program takes place even when the app is not running, and of course also on all devices on which you have installed the app and registered with the machine. And: This works even if you are traveling, that is, the status messages are sent through a server Samsung App and achieve therefore, if one is not in the local WLAN. However, an Internet connection must be maintained naturally.

By the way: For the owner of a Samsung Smart TVs there for the "obligation" nor a "freestyle", because in the 2014er devices (or a 2013er F9090, which was upgraded by SEC-2500), there is also a "smart home" - App. The makes basically the same as the smartphone app. The pairing process is slightly different here: The machine must be already integrated in the WLAN. The app finds and then starts an authentication process (60-second countdown). During this time you have on the machine, the "Smart Control" - activate function, so do not choose as the registration of a smartphone, "Easy Connection", which starts the separate wireless access point in the machine. That's a good thing. If the registration expire just as with smartphones, TV and machine would be close enough that they can establish a direct wireless connection, which would be a problem, depending on the site. So a whole lot of sense does the app in TV not because there also are no push messages, but you have to launch the app specifically to what to see. But for the techie the course is still a cool thing. :)

(Addendum of 07/03/2014:.. Unlike mentioned above also occurs on TV a push notification, without the app must be running, since this by itself will disappear after a few seconds, she was so far only not noticed it would be for a future version of App certain sense, the message either stand permit until they are "close" button, which is quite present in the pop-up, manually wegklickt with, or you do it adjustable in the options of the app if the popup after so and so many seconds of alone will disappear.)

Finally, a few words about the machine itself: Similar to the "ITE" system from Siemens / Bosch has the Samsung via an automatic dosing system for liquid detergent and softener. The capacity of the tanks, however, seems to me scarce sized than the competition. The capacity of the Weichspültanks I have interest's sake measured times; It is about 500ml. The detergent tank will probably be the same. After inzw approx. 10 washes the fabric softener tank was already the first time to be refilled, what way, informed an indication on the display of the machine, which stops until you see him and wegklickt. In the app, however, no message will appear diesbzgl .. It would be desirable that you could adjust the dosage somewhat unique. While there are exact mL details at Siemens, there is only one setting for the water hardness, and then each of detergent and fabric softener isolated setting "Less", "Standard" and "More". For the softener you also can choose to have in three stages, whether you use a concentrate ("Normal", "2x", "high"), resulting in a correspondingly reduced dosage. Furthermore, it is of course possible to disable the automatic dosing of either detergent or fabric softener, or both prior to each wash and instead directly attach an alternative detergent manually in the drum. One must then just remember to activate it again. This setting is the way, as well as other frequently used functions (drum lighting, smart control, network) on a "Quick Access Toolbar" available that runterpoppt when you tap the top of the screen. Speaking drum lighting: course looks awesome, but goes off again automatically after 5 minutes. In this respect, therefore, at most a show effect when times visit there. :)

The machine runs extremely quiet, even during the spin cycle. I've never heard of a so quietly washing machine. The part could easily also in the apartment are adjacent to the bedroom and work at night without it would disturb.

Service / Support:

It is worthwhile to look for when buying it, that the seller participates in an action in which a warranty extension to 5 years you get after purchase and to be carried out by the dealer registration of the customer (for free of course). This figure includes then next to a "Welcome Package" (I'm still waiting on it), a technician visit shortly before the end of the first 2 years of warranty, which then looks quasi after things. When "Premium Samsung five years" googling with keywords like, then you will find funny enough, a lot of PDFs on the Samsung pages that are really only useful for the dealer, and where you then as an end user and a lot learns what actually does not concern one. For example, that Samsung participating dealers for the installation of this machine here 150, - reimbursed. :) There is also a special hotline number (normal landline number, no chargeable service number), where, as I have already tested, in fact very quickly someone rangeht which is evident in fact entrusted primarily with the support of this machine.

Conclusion:

2000 - for a washing machine - the got to be crazy ... Yes, it can be seen as safe. On the other hand, the price reduced by the addition of S5 as mentioned by about 500, - and thus to a price, cost the other top washers. Must draufstehen that not necessarily on a top washing machine in this price range "Miele" or "Siemens", then a piece of wide-running safely under the Opel Slogan "Umparken in the head". And then I say yes also always like something like "Other people smoke" ... :)

Finally, a tip from the insurance area: If you are in a common room uses the machine (such as a shared laundry room in a tenant / owners' association) or otherwise outside of the actual apartment, you should check the status of their household. Some contracts eg thefts are of such common spaces with a maximum of for example 500, - assured. This would in the case of this machine, of course, are not enough here.
