Tracy Chapman sings again for us, so at least according to the first track from their new album, and my first thought was: how nice to hear her voice again! What I noticed was that the arrangements once again consistently fluffy, airy sound than the songs of the rather gloomy, introverted previous albums "Where You Live" (2005) and "Let It Rain" (2002). Particularly sting "I Did It All" (with clarinet - sounds like Cabaret) and "Save Us All" (with quotations from the Bible - sounds like Country) out what really is something special in the context of Chapman's back catalog. The rest of the songs focus as usual on the use of acoustic instruments, in the midst of the still impressive voice "perched". This Tracy Chapman evokes no more revolution up, instead, they commented that they experienced - from family tragedies ("For A Dream") about the general state of the world ("Our Bright Future", which is already behind us, "The First Person On Earth ", which is compared to the last man), hopes for a better world (" Something to See ") to interpersonal (" Conditional "," Thinking Of You "). The root of all their texts is so negative that I almost one star of the rating deducted from the eternal lament is namely also nothing better, but then I thought: If she sees life as she should sing about it accordingly. I thankfully a bit more fun.
20 years after their debut, of course, much has changed, so I also ask not that they still sound like 1988 - which it is but compared repeatedly. I am instead, over glow when me while listening to sometimes "A New Beginning" (1995) or "Crossroads" (1989) me. Because what matters most to me: Tracy still sing for us, and as long as it delivers this so beautiful songs (I have found no one who would require skipping) and food for thought, I'll give her 5 stars.
Some can be of Timbaland or visagistes pimp, yodel down of carousel horse or hit on stage wheels. Tracy Chapman is doing what she has always done. And they can still. Give me completely.
