Criticisms:
For me, despite allways connected transport service is available from time to time is not available. Unfortunately, you can not detect whether traffic is active or not. I was not so already in congestion that my BMW Navi has reported me with TMC, the TomTom but. If you click then update cumbersome through the menus on services, the message "the TomTom server could not be reached." Happened to me more than once. You can not select a route. All Navis earlier showed me alternative routes. I also have a feeling that the TomTom max. 100 km jams considered. So we know as a driver though, aha, 200 km comes a point wherever is congestion and would perhaps choose the alternative route, but this is impossible with the TomTom. Just that would be ideal, several route options, which would then appear still the current congestion. Why is there not?
In addition, the TomTom seems to prefer shorter but longer routes. If I decide against TomTom routing and the BMW Navi trust, and the TomTom shows then a shorter arrival time.
Updates are an impertinence. Some of the updates are not possible, because it is repeatedly interrupted during the update. So you have to sit next to it, wait, reboot again. Apparently the update servers are just too small as the Traffic Server.
Speed Camera Warning: "Report Blitzer" the button is so awkward positions that you only have to go to Menu. So just once warn Blitzer is not. Why for that there is no button on the map / in Navi screen? And the awkward placement probably explains the many false alarms because accidentally times a draufklickt.
The screen reflects terribly. When the sun shines, it is not reasonably possible to some extent, to find a place for the Navi, in which you can still see what's on the display.
Conclusion:
I bought the Navi only because the live traffic. Drive in about 60,000 kilometers and wanted reliable traffic reports. Today I take back my BMW Navi and check previously with Google Maps and their live traffic flow (looking all the way forward), which route is optimal.
In the Navi you feel, the client is a beta tester. Sometimes you wonder if the TomTom developers have ever tested this device live on the street, because as described above, many problems are obvious and easy to fix. The constant updates also populate the beta of the new TomTom series. And unreachable server in alwasy connectes are a "no go". There are also every now and then crashes while driving. Then you see several minutes only the world map, and then the device restarts with a drumroll. Goofy when there actually somewhere the diversion was ...
300 euros and more of these devices are already a bottomless impudence. Take a smartphone with data Flat and google maps, food and nothing is in parts even better.
SUPPLEMENTARY 12/24/2013
TomTom has responded to me, incidentally, that the error in the update resulting from a poor Internet connection and not received traffic reports from areas where there is no reception. All I can say:
Dear TomTom community manager. Your answer is the typical "TomTom marketing blah-blah" and in the form already an impertinence. Instead anaylsieren the error and fix it, you give the customer the blame.
BUT: If the connection to Traffic service does not work, does my phone (D2) and if I really am stuck in traffic and my iPad (D1) reception. It is therefore NOT the reception, but, as it is written in various Internet forums, your servers are to blame.
2. Download speed.
I use at home T-Entertainment. That means I can simultaneously watch 2 movies over the internet and still take a while still surfing, even the data-intensive youtube works then. Also I can make on Steam downloads without problems and crashes. But clearly, for a simple update for TomTom my Internet connection is too bad ....
Dear potential buyers,
who still played with the idea to buy this Navi, should know the answer by TomTom: TomTom when one tries not to fix the error, but to give the user the blame. This Navi will never be good, because it is already perfect. The problems lie exclusively with the user. This is reminiscent of the early days of PC software. We program not what the customer wants, the customer must take what we program. Only there in Navi area too many-even Free- alternatives.
A good answer would have been:
Unfortunately, we are lagging behind at present to the server capacity, but build from this strong and have resolved the bottlenecks of the year. With regard to the wishes expressed strengthened you and other customers, as Show route alternatives, greater storage Reception radius etc. we've saved this and will incorporate them in the next major update. That would be something! Why can you not?
SUPPLEMENTARY 25.12
And today, the TomTom has once again proven its uselessness to the test. When we go to our horses, the TomTom always chooses the path through the city instead of the (faster) motorway. Well, there where 30 is, you can lt. TomTom also display drive 50, explains much. Therefore, we always take the road over the motorway. Interestingly, when we took this route, the arrival time is also shorter. And I've always chosen fastest route.
Yesterday then promptly drove into a traffic jam. Since TomTom refuses to propose different routes and to choose one, you have no chance to see the traffic jams on the route's preferred. Would that TomTom, the 6-year-old Garmin suggest such different routes, we would drive around congestion. So we stood again .... And would even hear TomTom wishes to the user. But as the whole fizzles benefits could offer a Traffic.
Either way I can not understand the routing part. Did it often, that if I am familiar and I select the route suggested by TomTom Route is both time and kilometers slightly longer. Looking at that time of arrival and distance to be less, if you decide against the TomTom Route.
TomTom, please give me my 300 euros back.
Oh, and despite all the updates crashes the device while driving further from .... Probably TomTom will tell me now that I am to blame, because the power supply fluctuates too hard in my car or something like that ....
