It's hard to start a successful solo career for a former member of a girl or boy band. Examples of a more or less spectacular failure there is enough: the Spice Girls (all), the No Angels (all), Take That (Gary Barlow, Mark Owen), Destiny's Child (Michelle Williams), Blue (Simon Webbe, Lee Ryan ), Bro'Sis (all), Backstreet Boys (Nick Carter), etc. were really only truly successful Beyonce, Justin and Robbie. Especially difficult it turns out, when the solo attempt is accompanied by a complete transformation of the music and the images, and therefore a different target group to be addressed. Which serious music prospect would want to give a former, most soulless, plastic-teen idol a chance? Siobhan Donaghy is a tragic case. Shortly after her not entirely amicable departure from the Sugababes released their solo debut. She moved away a bit far from the commercially-artificial-feel-good pop their former troop, but seemed not to know anything in particular exactly where you actually want to go. The result was more than apparent in the sales figures. Even in their home country Great Britain "Revolution In Me" was a terrific flop and not even managed a place in the top 100. Not to mention of course the rest of the world what the record company not very funny place and Miss Donaghy sat outside the door! Meanwhile, with a new label (probably does not believe in women Donaghy and rejects a worldwide distribution) appeared recently released their second album "Ghosts". And then you hear amazing things! Siobahn Donaghy has arrived, it has its own style and want to prove to the world (quite rightly) that it is a serious artist in the best sense! One should indeed never hastily come up with big names or exaggerated comparisons. But if you should be awarded this title, so Siobhan Donaghy is surely the Kate Bush of the new millennium! At a high level, the young British woman with her beguiling siren song presented wonderfully eccentric, dreamy pop songs beyond chart clichés. The individual songs have been decorated with an incredible attention to detail with all sorts of instruments and synthetic effects. However, this never sounds over-ambitious or over-produced, but always fascinating versatile and yet homogeneous. Even after the umpteenth run discovered the gentle listener (especially under headphones) always new sounds and gimmicks. Playing tips are available in this sense no, because every song is something very special for themselves. The title track "Ghosts" is, however, mentioning especially. The whole thing sounds as if the song is played backwards. What seems quite getting used to at the beginning, rapidly becoming a real addictive nature with its exotic style of singing, the fiepsenden synthesizers and delaying beats. It is no wonder that Siobhan Donaghy designate among others Björk, Radiohead, Brian Eno, Kate Bush, Massive Attack, Goldfrapp, Pink Floyd, Moby, Neneh Cherry and Tori Amos as their musical influences. The inevitably hear sound through repeatedly without getting ever plagiarism to mind. It is hoped that with a little delay to a wide audience is aware of Siobahn Donaghy and her music finally gets the success it deserves! For me, "Ghosts" at least so far the best album of the year and will continue to be hard to top!
