Aaaah, it was a bit frustrating not to know more about their relationship. I vowed to read the entire series, beginning with Birdman. Fetishes is a novel that has convinced me. I loved it from one end to the other, completely embedded in the story, I even smiled at the little notes of humor and references to pop culture. The atmosphere is not as creepy as I might have feared, though the story is set in a mental asylum. Patients are disturbed and speak of a ghost, that of an old dwarf nurse, Maude, who was engaged in sadistic torture. AJ LeGrande, the chief coordinator, resist the temptation of falling into this psychosis ... but some events become more disturbing and that he wants to get to the bottom by conducting an internal investigation.
The story runs on a clear rhythm, with alternating chapters and a very charismatic cast of characters. Do not imagine reading a hundred miles an hour, with many a terrifying descriptions and breathtaking suspense. Quite the contrary, because the atmosphere is based on a latent psychological tension but very fascinating. The outcome may not be surprise the crowds, but it will not disappoint either. It is an appointment to the opposite of what we would expect, is just as well and I was, moreover, given desire to read more!
Another Audiolib who has conquered me, thanks to François Hatt whose reading is perfect in every way. No tension for female voices, the actor has just grabbed the stifling atmosphere of the book, is impregnated and began to read by modulating the tone to capture the reader's interest. It is a success because we never diverts our attention to something other than what he tells us!
