What I like:
- Light, even lighter than the '85.
- Autofocus quickly and quietly.
- Colors and contrast really quite good.
- Insensitive to scattered light and backlight.
What I bad to less well find:
- Weak sharpness properly mushy, also in the center at maximum aperture to F3.5, at maximum aperture.
- Legal strong vignetting of between F1.8 through F3.5 -> but can be corrected via additional software.
Total me the power of the new 28mm has not satisfied on my D800 - especially comparing to the published elsewhere without test results, this lens has there provided on a D3x. In practice are worlds between the delivered me 28mm and 50mm. Both lenses I tested at the same time under the same lighting conditions on my D800. After further sampling and evaluation of aperture rows, I have to conclude that only from F4 worthwhile ever a more detailed viewing of images. At F8 the pictures were indeed most sharply - even to the edge, but for me also unacceptable. Since I expect from a prime lens on a D800 clearly much more sharpness, selbige I get to the '50s and '85 also.
I wonder if I might have caught a breakaway from the lens and I selbigem should still devote a 2nd attempt. Because the focal length is quite interesting and desirable, especially as a complement to the 50's and 85's. With comparable performance then about 600 euros would be justified. So, however, I can only say "not bad", but more than 3 stars are then also on my part not.
