There is a willingness of the author to order everything with consistency and I liked the hierarchy in place, even if it is sometimes difficult to understand a little messy explanations. Moreover, this hierarchy is justified causing a stir among different castes, which is seen through Elijah, but also through the angels with Adrian orders.
Lindsay is a pleasant character, even if hardly original. She knows what she wants, and did not really afraid of his desires while giving importance to what his heart (his family, loyalty, etc.). A mixture of timidity (understandable amid the angels) and simultaneously effrontery (with Elijah) make it an endearing character.
Elijah precisely is an exciting character. Aware of his status Alpha but anxious to spare everyone and not to provoke the conflict, it is constantly on the go. His "friends" are only get him into trouble, potentially deadly, and he finds an unexpected relaxation with Lindsay. The young woman being playful with him, never giving any impression of flirtation (so no love triangle, hurray!).
Adrian it is a high-ranking angel, torn between his desires, incomprehensible to his fellows, and responsibilities that have always defined. Dark but loving, it's a nice character because it does not have the side "bad boy tortured mysterious past." The reader quickly know what to expect and happens quite easily get an idea of his personality and motivations.
If I had a real good time (to my surprise), I found the draft regrettable side explanations of Adrian. For example: he at length on the consequences of a possible relationship with the young woman, but at the end of the novel, there is no explanation and it was hard to understand what may have to worry as everything This time. Another point, the Lindsay quest for revenge that eventually discarded without being resolved.
If vampires, which however seem to be a significant part (and interesting) of this world are sidelined, that does not bother me too much. The Lindsay chemistry with Adrian and even Elijah enough to sweep the rest.
Finally, despite some points a bit messy, I really had a very good read and I regret not having read it earlier as I had expected. I can not wait to read more :)
