At first I had to DN850, because I have a Sony 840 series have been for 20 years, which also works to this day every day with no problems.
Since me the 850 initially not quite convinced, I have ordered me due to the good response the TX-NR636.
Sound and performance of the 636 are great, no question. In my opinion, much cleaner and more powerful than the Sony DN850, however, the Sony has a finer EQ.
The build quality is almost as good, the screen is easier to read when Sony.
When Onkyo a printed and halfway clever manual is included. The list at Sony did not even deserve the word Quick Start Guide. Besides teaching, instructions and prohibitions is because it nothing worth mentioning. Completely incomprehensible: Not even on the Internet a complete manual is available. Only help texts for keywords you can call. When I think of my father
The menu of the Onkyo looks compared to Sony as from the last century. If you do not know the Sony, it may well be satisfactory. But only then.
The absolute dumbest on NR636: While you adjust the volume and tone of each speaker in the menu, there is no sound! One must adapt to suspicion and switch back from the menu. Only then is re-emit an audible sound. Which programmer comes only in such a stupid idea when an AV receiver? Or my device had a defect The Sony can definitely better.
I wanted the Sony initially not because of its menu structure which is ultimately and compared it good, but not perfect.
WLAN and Bluetooth worked at Sony even better. While WLAN is stable, put the BT Onkyo permanently in session. Once logged in, the Sony maintains the connection. The Steuerungsapp the NR636 is formulated friendly garbage. When times (short) works, you can adjust nix the app from DN850 is exemplary in direct comparison, although here also is still room for improvement. You can use it to adjust quite a lot on the menu already.
I would have been determined yet can make friends with the Onkyo due to the clean room-filling sound and the possibilities, but the clunky and cheap-looking remote control then has yet given me the rest.
Great that all devices and connections are directly accessible. Here Sony has saved some because all devices can not be selected directly without switching to the menu. But it is clear (clear lack yes compared felt 20 buttons) and more workable. But a few more keys would have to be.
Nice that you can program the FB Onkyo. Would only be helpful if they would not keep changing on its own, and unrecognizable, between any devices back and forth, and you repeatedly on the receiver the main unit - has to select.
What I do not like running on both devices, which is the speakers can not be added to the selection when using headphones.
A bad device is the Onkyo course not, but I have the Sony in the sum but then fell better.
Now certainly some questions where the STR-DN1050 is because?
For I decided at the end, without having previously played around with it. The DN850 had me then too few connection options, and because the menu is the same I knew what's coming.
That the DN1050 in sound and power at the end is so much better than the DN850 I would have not expected. Here Sony has refilled properly for the larger of the two brothers and subjectively also left the TX-NR636 behind.
