"Who does too much himself, who makes crooked ... except self-extinction". Who else could be as Tocotronic? Out of whose spring such a line could otherwise arise not when Dirk von Lowtzow? Tocotronic ... started as a hamburger 3 guys who could play 3 chords hardly had a fucking rage against everything and this presented cold. With KOOK the guys have evolved musically and lyrically. Lyrical than the first years Dirk seals from this album. So when she would be finally grown up. Things finally "surrender" in 2007 are very different Tocotronic on stage and in the studio. From the rebellious boys are grown men become. And just as they have matured, their music has matured. And "Sound and the Fury" is no more and no less than the logical consequence of "surrender". The guitar moves up a notch more into the background, the sound growing experiments ... it creates something big. Something that is greater than anything they've ever done. Strings, choirs, harps and what ... is also always the same ... it just sounds wonderful great! Lyrically is "Sound and the Fury" but gloomy and depressed than the previous albums. The first track "Your love is killing me" is brutal written. An 8 minute epic, with little text and great sounds. "A gentle touch of Terror" is another piece more Tocotronic. No less dramatic acting text and yet fascinating. A rousing rhythm and Dirks typical way of singing act here on the handset and impress across the board. With "The torture never stops" is the third track for me perhaps the strongest of the album. Oppressive, bleak and full of suffering ... but also hope there is "And from today, living as ever." Very strong chorus. "The blood on my hands" is probably the most untypical of the album number. Gentle sounds and soulful vocals make the song a unique piece, even if nciht necessarily an absolute highlight of the plate. "What are you doing well / Do not make it even / even if you pretending you / the way" as the first single couple out ... well ... it's probably the number the "surrender" comes closest of all on this disc. Anyway, great song that once it is in your mind, so soon does not want to back out. "Please oscillate" is an excellent short number, as they could not be better. A big song of the Toco, Respect !!! The title song begins ... as ... well ... I'll tell times ... Pink Floyd could have written a better intro. Just wonderful !! The song is very catchy, has a great text and can convince in all respects. "Question of the doubt" is accompanied by acoustic guitar Dirk von Lowtzow who has once again demonstrated his lyrical skills class test. "/ Is leaden in doubt for the bitterness / And my hot tears my time / Now I have to mention: / Question of the doubt" ... what more could you want? "No more masterpieces" reminds structurally maybe a little to "explosion". Much Instrumental for such a short song and little text. "Storms the castle" is a typical Tocotronic rockers like you're used to from the old days. "SDS / SDS / SDS" "Voice of the tyrant" is like a fairy tale. So unreal and dreamlike. "Gift" is then 8:30 the epic conclusion to an epic album an epic band. That is probably Tocotronics "The End" or "European Son". Again very little text for a lot of music. It fits wonderfully harmonious and just right perfect. Overall, Tocotronic have impressive comeback after 3 years and already raised the bar for more albums in 2010 quite high. No matter who comes and wants to record the album of the year has come once to Tocotronic past. Respect for the 4 guys from Hamburg. Please keep it up and more of it!
