The X52 has a thick firmware bug: once something is to be shown on the display, which is longer than the 16 characters that may appear in the line, at least the stick depends on full and unresponsive. If you're lucky, the computer reacts yet (but that is usually not the case), then you can save even more open things and quit clean, because if you pull the X52 from the USB port (what remains one for left another to a Reset perform?) takes place immediately a total crash of the computer with blue screen. This behavior has been reproduced on several different computers, and is 100% reliable.
Saitek is known this error! At least he is described in the official Saitek support forum for at least 2 years. For unknown reasons, can not or will not correct the Saitek.
The programming software picks up this bug no consideration, obviously, because it is also used for other sticks that do not have this bug. This means that the written profiles contain key names that are longer than 16. When you load these profiles, but not later than on actuation of the relevant button, the X52 is adopted and enforces the disconnection of the USB connector to restart.
So much for the problem of verification and now the solution:
The profiles created with the file extension .pr0 are XML-like files that can be edit with any text editor, even Notepad. Care must be meticulously that each entry behind every "name =" no longer than 16 characters (the quotation marks, single or double, do not count). The so processed profile can be loaded without any problems and then you have a real delight at its X52.
Then I manually check was too cumbersome after each change, I made me a little program that automatically corrects the profile. I imagine it like everyone free of charge.
Conclusion: A really great stick, good software, but also a known bug. Who can live with it, to limit its profile to 16 characters, for the is a very strong buy recommendation!
