The new album of Foo Fighters falls in principle once the interesting concept to provide a rocking plate beside a dreamy acoustic disc on. Whether I think that succeeded I will get to later. The first CD: Some of my Vorrezensenten have mentioned that despite the undeniable class of songs there is something missing. I also had the first run this feeling. Although a good rock song to the other seam (and to chalk the Foo Fighters defects in songwriting, is ridiculous, the songs are well thought out and arranged - almost all the songs are real catchy tunes, boasting a great chorus), but you will at first hearing not shake the feeling that one ingredient is missing. Nevertheless, I have the entire album (ie both CDs) fully consulted at the first time, which I never usually do, even with the best albums. Usually I hear in every song into a minute, maybe two, and then go to the next song about to give me a first impression. In this album, however, I managed not once to push the forward button, because I have so liked all the songs that I immediately wanted to even listen to the end. A true sign of quality! But what the first CD is missing, is the mixture. Because all ballads (which are beautiful) were packed on the second CD, the first CD in all their strength is somewhat mushy. The handset lacks the pause between the firecrackers in which he can lean back comfortably and his ears somewhat Quiet, can enjoy playful. And it lacks the typical for the Foo Fighters jazzy mid-tempo songs like "Learn to fly", "Headwires", "Times Like These", "New Way Home" - the nice, beautiful songs that give a simple this feel-good feeling and which would very well fit in between each hit. The second CD: Genial! A beautiful song joins the other. And the list of guest musicians is impressive. Very worth hearing, especially Norah Jones, who has something to say sings together with Dave Grohl "Virginia Moon", and Josh Homme, which unpacks the acoustic guitar quite unlike its Stone Age Queens of the song "Razor" and shows what a guitar god is in it , Absolute highlights, you have to hear! But also applies to the second CD (though not to the same extent as in the first CD), that over time certain fatigue caused by the lack of a good mixture of faster and slower songs and occasionally one wishes among all the beautiful ballads again a cheeky noisemakers as they have been heard before on the first CD well enough. Conclusion: 20 great songs of Foo Fighters, who musically evolved significantly in my opinion, and become more versatile (especially Taylor Hawkins werkt on drums varied than ever before), have developed a new sound (whether it likes it or not, the cries of Dave Grohl is very memorable) and some of the best songs of the year have delivered - from the first CD, for example the first song "In Your Honor" or the already mentioned songs on the second disc. I can understand if some fans outraged in the face of this development sneer, but if the Foo Fighters a second "The Colour and the Shape" (for me the way, still the best Foo Fighter album, since they can so much and so good publish as they wish - it will not change, I love this album now even have published), then the outcry same fans would just come for the Foo Fighters have fallen into a musical standstill. I think it is in any case well what they have delivered with "In Your Honor" - though it might have been a good idea to mix the 20 songs a bit, although the idea loud with and not so loud CD of course a nice gag is.
