Cherry G80-3850LXBDE-2 MX-board 3.0 Professional keyboard USB - Brown Soft (Personal Computers)

Customer Review

Back to the roots - experiences of my first mechanical keyboard from Cherry, the MX Board 3.0 including palm rest and O-ring.. Why I decided to do just that and what the transition means of mechanical keyboards. My review should be helpful, especially for transfer passengers ...

Since I'm 12, I work with computers, more than 18 years, in which the keyboard is one of my main tools. In school I learned to write the 10-finger, almost 15 years ago I started to program. The keyboard was always important for me, today it is no longer indispensable. Whether I'm working with it, reviews or blog articles, write, or a round of Battlefield games - it must function.

Now I am the proud owner of Cherry G80, the MX Board 3.0.

In recent years, I had very high wear on keyboards. This depended on the one hand with the rapid wear to the keys, but also with the quality of some manufacturer. On average, I had to once every 3 months to buy a new keyboard to "feel at ease" me at work again. Sticking keys and several abrasions were a tragedy in the long run. And since I was a fan of flat keyboards that plus typed quietly, most keyboards were after a while again and become louder. Somehow I never found a keyboard, which satisfies me in the long run. So there's almost every 3 months a new one.

The CHERRY STREAM XT, for example, I had 20x determined. This held the longest and was of all her really the best. But in between I sit sometimes even to other manufacturers, such as Logitech or Fujitsu. From diverse gaming keyboards around the 100, - I never thought something, something came in no case my house. Ugly, no flat keys, colorful gimmicks or F-keys that I absolutely can not use. Of the high prices not to mention ...

Why now, or ever a mechanical keyboard ?!

Back to the roots! What I did not like so far on most mechanical keyboards, were the high keys, the volume or even the enormous focus on gaming, with colorful gimmicks and numerous function keys, not to mention the design and price. Brands like Logitch, Razer or Corsair offer Although a wide range of products, but I myself could never really arrive there. So I waited until I was now carefully a buddy on the Cherry G80, so the MX Board 3.0. Although a bit late, because a good piece there's been 2013 the market.

At first I was skeptical because I have previously written and worked for years with normal keyboards, always write with flat keys, nice and quiet and comfortable when. How that would now probably with a mechanical keyboard? What switches are best suited for me? What are the keys? How loud it is when writing? Questions, questions ...

My decision, the transition to a mechanical keyboard:

Granted, a good friend has done the preparatory work for me, because he had already read in the matter and well on the subject mechanical keyboards knew. He even had a few days previously the Cherry MX 3.0 Board ordered the Soft Brown Swichtes, which of course I was able to test extensively with him. Initially still a bit skeptical but the doubts were quickly dispelled - and therefore I have also ordered a directly. Not only the keyboard, but also directly the optional palm rest and right O-ring, which "dampen" the volume.

Frankly, I also imagined the move worse than he eventually turned to the test. Child's play, so to speak. I never was able to tap as fast and as accurate, although the keys are a bit higher than I was previously accustomed. I'll explain it to me just in the enormous good tactile feedback of the keys, which so easily makes writing so that I find it fascinating. An enormously good feedback, which is really fun to write. No jamming of keys, no slipping, tap clean. The palm rest affects, as far as I can tell so far, as positively to my letter of. And thanks to the O-ring I could decrease the volume, even if it is with me "only" soft switches is Brown.

How does the whole thing now shows in the future, I can not judge unfortunately, that remains to be seen. But I can each, which is also on mechanical keyboards in front of the first or second step, just go on. The investment is worthwhile in any case, especially for prolific writers or programmers. I type shortly after the changeover approximately 1,000 words in 10 minutes, previously there were nearly 700. However, one must consider the familiarization phase where I just completely located, since all feeling can not be compared with my previous keyboards. As I said, I'm curious what drauß will in the future, I do not want to swap definitely.

Facts about the keyboard:

CHERRY offers with the G80 (MX Board 3.0) a real bargain with a great price-performance ratio! When comparing various mechanical keyboards of other manufacturers with this one, the price difference is readily apparent. The keyboard itself has a first-class workmanship, a simple layout and is very sturdy. With only 4 function keys at the top right for volume (down / up / mute) and a HOME button (browser) fall this though quite small from, but they give me out completely. I am what the terms anyway not so spoiled, I look at these 4 keys so as absolute luxury.

Particularly positive I feel the whole writing experience. The keys act on the photos also higher and "clunky" than they are in reality. Really a lot of difference to the well-known of me flat keyboards there's really not, so the switch drops me really easily. What I also like is the fact that you can disable the Windows key completely. This should be especially interesting for gamers. Who thinks something out ?! Great Thing! No more accidentally from the outside game, because you get to the key. Then there is the illumination of the active keys of Capslock, NUM or roles. Most keyboards have indeed above these 3 LEDs which indicate the status. This, too, is the Cherry MX Board 3.0 otherwise, here each of these buttons is illuminated by a small green LED, if it is active. What I also absolutely would note the enclosed adhesive strip with rubber, which are befetigt on the back of the keyboard skills. The emphasis is on can, because one may refrain is a not imposed. Thus, everyone can decide for yourself whether you want to use the non-slip rubber or not. In use they are damn good, I think while I write everything here has not moved one millimeter my keyboard ...

Respect. the choice of switches, because everyone has probably make his own image. I even chose Soft Brown. It is the perfect midway between linear and continuous feedback. I think if changing newcomers certainly the best choice. Who wants to hear rattle it right when typing should set the blue switch at home. But as I said, that's a matter of taste.

Conclusion:

All in all, really a dream of keyboard. I look forward to the further work with it and am excited to see how long I'll have my joy in it. But even in the case that even a switch breaks down or wear out the buttons, you can buy more individually everything. This saves enormous costs, I'm really curious how that pays just for me in the long run.

Here I can only express a strong buy recommendation! :-)
