Customer Review

There are already many helpful reviews, so I want to explain a few subtleties in more detail, to complement the other.
(I use the GN since now more than a week, have now my second Android smartphone (previously the Galaxy Ace) am IT student and was developing Android apps (and therefore think at least a little to know;)))

:-) Update to JellyBean:
Who also asks how the update for now proceeds more that I can say that the whole without additional software (not Samsung Kies and such a waste) from malicious code. While I was asserted after power and connect to Wi-Fi via "Software Version Check" in the settings first, it would be up to date, but after 5-10 minutes to Android announced but then that I had to restart. After rebooting to install about 5 minutes and hey presto JellyBean is it. Uncomplicated, fast, easy, safe.
The update should be the way indulge in any case - in brief, the most important innovations of IceCreamSandwich to JellyBean are especially "Project Butter" in which the performance has been significantly increased, but also many small bugfixes (one of which is that the screen for a long time Rotate need if you tilt the phone, and that could annoy a pretty) make life easier.

:-) Performance:
The GN flutscht without problems. No matter what you do, it runs fast. I tested a few games among others (Bad Piggies for example), of course, the surface generally and surfing the net. Everything is absolutely perfectly and without a single tiny stuttering but with great 60fps. However, you should realize one thing: The hardware is top, on the software you decide yourself. Say, I have next to the standard Android browser also installed Firefox and Chrome. On the standard browsers all sides run fast, 100% liquid, even with lots of pictures and a lot of JavaScript fuss. In Chrome it can sometimes falter slightly during scrolling. In Firefox it chops almost always, it is sometimes quite crashed one / two. The Tagesschau app runs very smoothly. At the end of shows in any case that in each case the apps are simply bad, and not the phone itself.
Incidentally, I must mention that one should be careful with benchmarking: A S3 with quad-core processor is not necessarily better than any other phone, just because he has two more cores. The decisive factors are benchmarks here. And for the end user changes nothing anyway - I do not know any app that could bring sweat the Galaxy Nexus only approximately into. "More power" is especially one thing: a marketing tool. (And it beats everything on the battery down ...)

:-) Compatibility:
All apps for 2.3.x run on JellyBean. Better even: 3.x + Apps (the new Action Bar etc.) run on the 2.3.x devices! If one takes the trouble as a programmer in any case (but Android takes a lot since starting). Another reason for the 4.x train jump, is that the old 2.3.x App Feeling is indeed buried.

:-) Android in its purest form:
This is _ (Google) Android_, no Android with Samsung surface or other jokes. Why this is so great? Why Google brings ever own cell phones out? The intention was that the other producers (Samstung, HTC, you-name-it) rausbringen hardly updates for their phones. That was not the philosophy of Android. Therefore, Google wants to steer the market more in the direction of modifying less and thus be able to easily and quickly bring updates. No one at Samsung will readjust for one of his thousands 2+ years old cellphones still the surface - so no updates. Therefore it is with a pure Android really good about it and I would recommend this only.

:-) The display
... Is simply a delight. Especially the black finish is so beautiful jet black, so that the very intense color of the high-resolution display to come to wonderful effect. However, for me the screen is so far always by far the largest consumer battery in the statistics (50-75% with automatic brightness adjustment). Incidentally, the display is ostensibly bent slightly, but do not you see that really, is thus only marginally.

:-) Battery
... Keeps excellent. This is of course very much depends on what you do, but my old Galaxy Ace does not even feel half as long and that is of display performance and forth in relation to the Stone Age. Ever should the battery life longer pay attention, which is ultimately one of the greatest shortcomings in _allen_ smartphones!

:-) The Camera
... Is underrated! I do not know why this has so strongly anchored in the head with the people: More megapixels does not mean more quality! Each of the basic knowledge of digital photography, that should know. Whether 5MP or 8MP is better, is not once said. Often, the pixels are then interpolated (Wikipedia brings a further here). The quality of the sensor is much more important, and the software is doing its part help - but that can be again difficult to measure, so you need again complicated benchmarks, and of as many to say reasonably can be it a 5MP or 8MP is better. The number of megapixels is a marketing tool. The quality of the photos in terms of shutter speed, contrast and sharpness are excellent. I still have an old Nokia N95 with Zeiss lens, which incidentally also makes very good photos and need to after all these years still can not hide. My old Galaxy Ace also has 5MP and makes worse photos than the old Nokia. The Nexus both trumped significantly, even with 5MP. So please evaluate something objectively here and not yell "Uh only 5MP how weak!".
By the way: The Panorama function is made really funny and good. Of course this is just a Softwaregimmick and no need to buy a Galaxy Nexus takes another ...

: - | Google Apps:
Well, it must indeed be many Google Apps on a Google phone. Not all are great. Google Play Music for example has quite surprised me - so you can probably only play music that you purchased from Google's store. Later, Google Play Music has then but recognized my music, but a lot he does not play - in short, that is scrap (yet?). So do not fret and wonder Download same in Google Play one of the thousands of free music apps. I like to recommend the VLC Beta ...
Of course, since there are still GoogleNow what is probably pretty funny, but I can not say much about it because I always pay attention to privacy and GoogleNow is pretty much the opposite of that;).

: - | Caution When starting:
The Wizard at the beginning accompanied a through the first settings. When specifying a Google account, it connects to the Internet - and via mobile network. Who has no flat rate, will be annoyed, especially if you can not prevent the first but quickly click through the wizard needs to come finally serve up some settings.

: - | Side dishes:
A USB cable (relatively short!), A socket adapter (yes, adapter, which means you have not plug the USB cable into the socket adapter. That's great if you have different devices use different USB ports, then you need only change the cable. But I rather feel that it should be more savings ...), as well as the in-ear headphones (which are not really great, the sound is just sufficient processing looks cheap , different rubbers for different ear sizes not there - but, well, for a gift takes mans love with;)).

: - | PC Connection:
That's no longer as easy as it once was. A "USB Mass Storage" is no longer recognized, if one hangs its Nexus to your PC. You have the possibility via MTP PTP protocols to transfer data. About Windows that everything should be straightforward and the average user will not notice any difference. On Linux, I can only say, you need the same a couple of new packages and then can at least mount via command line. I found the only pretty stupid, but I informed myself and found out the reason for Google's change, and it makes sense (GoogleT afterwards if you want to know more). I just hope that the logs are then soon something better supported in a few years.
SD card slot, incidentally, does not exist! But should you have already read in the product description.

:-( Other small caveats:
The battery cover is of course not the blockbuster - but that will probably be Samsung's new trademark). It feels very good, non-slip (and that you need at the large display when you have to embrace) but shall also be made of very thin plastic and hakelig. At the end I had the problem that a hook does not lock properly, and although next to the camera. This can be there very easily push the battery cover by about 1 mm, which is not possible in other places - you can see that no, that sounds too marginal, but it is annoying, especially for such a good phone. That seems cheap. The weight is very low - When unpacking, if the battery is not yet there, one might already be wondering what you have spent so much money;) But I myself would like it quiet difficult, the seeming simplicity of high quality. The speaker is also not the hit, that's me personally but also care less.

But the best for last:
The Galaxy Nexus will cost concise 300. This is the best price performance in the segment at all. More power for less money is not there. As a little tip on the edge (me it has been almost a little annoyed): Soon supposedly will be presented a new Nexus, this time from LG. Possibly to beats then again down on the price ...

For the great display, power, pure Android and top prize money from me it clear 5 Stars!

*** UPDATE ***:

: - | AMOLED display
One shortcoming falls over time then still on: The display is indeed very bright and color intensive and thus inspiring even at first glance. But I want to warn you in advance: If you have no experience with organic displays will eventually be a little puzzled that the color white is not white eigtl soo.. The effect is most noticeable at high brightness is not on, but at a low: All white areas (background browser, Google lettering at boot, etc.) are very greenish. This is not a manufacturing defect but a disadvantage of the AMOLED displays. Unlike LCD you get though more color intensity and brightness and contrast, but a shorter life and uneven color distribution (red is represented weaker, then comes blue and green is just the most intense - can recommend as Wikipedia;)). I admit it but neutral rating because for me personally a green tint in low brightness is to cope with the advantages over. But everyone must decide for themselves whether a disturbs. Most of all, I want to warn you, not that you get the same fright "Ohgott's true what not ...";)

*** UPDATE *** 2:

There are great nothing new to report on my Galaxy Nexus, still I'm very happy with it and after a few weeks I still have my fun with it and found no flaws :)
Rather, I wanted to add that my announcement soon come a new Nexus out, proved to be true: The Nexus 4 from the collaboration of Google and LG. Ever worth mentioning at this point it's just because it might be a good alternative to the Galaxy Nexus - it is usually equivalent to, but often (obviously) better than the Galaxy Nexus, but it costs (provided by Google) from 299, -! You seem as low it but just get on Google itself, and not in every country. In the countries in which the LG Nexus4 can not be offered by Google Play, it will cost a few hundred more. So it is worthwhile to again look closely after Nexus4 instead to invest now in the Galaxy Nexus - could be for less (or the same amount of) money will get more power and still collect the benefits of a true Google Android smartphones! I Wish You Success :)

*** UPDATE 3 ***:

A little update again: I'm still very happy with my Galaxy Nexus :) I use it for the app development for a while now, since the Nexus devices are generally better suited for. Highlighting I'd still like the update kindness: "now with Android 4.xx" While other high-priced mobile phones (eg Samsung Galaxy S3) with breasts, because I can still smile only amazed. No, really, there are now 'already' 4.1.1 for the S3? I've been around for some time 4.2.1! The more you get used to it, the stranger comes a ahead of the competition. I can never return again on a mobile phone, which does not receive timely OS updates - because one thing is clear to me: One of the most important features of a smart phone is the OS. It matters a lot to have only 4.0.4. Maybe you have a quad-core processor, but a Galaxy Nexus running at 4.1+ simply faster and smoother because the software has been optimized. New features such as the '3D' camera mode has you directly in average of 2 weeks after the official release.
Only a little surprised I am by the price development from the Galaxy Nexus currently. Now before Christmas there is just more expensive (?) Than at the time when I gschrieben this review. And, although the successor Nexus4 is outside. Should one understand: /
