Beauty & the Beat (Audio CD)

Customer Review

Schubladenverweigerin Tarja Turunen has struck again. This time it is a project that has provided on its feet with her longtime companion Mike Terrana the vocally blessed dial Argentinian, namely "The Beauty and the Beat". After the trip to the Christmas music (Haru) now therefore a further recourse to the classical roots of the singer.

The "classic" must thereby be taken as seriously as rare because officially this project is indeed to the classical music and bring together the rock, "Beauty and the Beat" but primarily serves the classical music enthusiasts, the right time to complete first CD and thus represents 13 of 21 tracks. For the common Rocker the first disc is therefore already died basically completely, because who so far nothing of Bach, Dvorak ("New World Symphony") and Mozart ("Eine kleine Nachtmusik") had left, is this part unlikely to ardent supporter mutate. Change it neither very well-known pieces such as the "William Tell Overture" (Rossini) anything, nor the fact that Terrana interspersed here and there a nice (but partly out of place acting) Drum Salve. Of course, the orchestra sounds great, as Tarja, but when you have the rocker or may not have heard. Since the second CD already makes significantly more mood that needs to get by while the guitar well without our good old friend, if only the song selection makes but a welcome close to Tarja's regular solo albums. So the more unknown queen number "You Take My Breath Away" is presented in a fairly minimalist version, Led Zeppelin is honored with a cleverly arranged medley and even Tarja's former band Nightwish is represented by "Swanheart". Really especially goes the fan's heart but if care next to Holopainen trinket still "The Reign" and the hit single "I Walk Alone" with the full orchestration of nightmares. The highlight on "Beauty and the Beat" is nevertheless a different song, namely the incredible, dramatic version of "Into the Sun", which comes to nearly seven minutes myself.

The question is whether this double CD will find buyers or not, is cumbersome to discuss. Benefit the duo comes certainly that has always Tarja is a crossover artist, ie one that is in multiple genres at home. The worldwide fanbase is certainly not a disadvantage. Whether one but really needs this part, is another matter. Those who are curious on the Tarja classic or just want to expand his horizons, get started here made easy and is taken from the Finn as it were by the hand. Who wants to have only the orchestral versions of rock songs, however, goes much better with individual downloads. This 2013 concert recorded appears parallel way, on DVD and Blu-ray. Here you can the true professionals in microphone, sticks and still look natural in the 50-piece orchestra even on the fingers and enjoy the atmospheric ambience. Mike Terrana allowed to sing a song of the great Frank Sinatra ("Fly me to the Moon") is indeed meant nice and not implemented so bad, but borders with or without a picture of lese majeste.
