I do not know how to begin to evoke the feelings that came to me while reading this excellent novel but cons, I'm sure my little speech will not live up to the writing of Jean -Paul Dubois. The literary quality which demonstrates the author participates indeed greatly to the extreme interest that one door, from the first page, this French life. The writing is sharp, precise, finely adapted to situations. Clearly, the style is perfect. In "a French life," emotions run high and we move with equal depth to tears of joy, lightness to the most opaque darkness. The story of Paul Blick, narrator of his life and that of his family, crossbred of the highlights of the Fifth Republic that comes with the beginning of the story, the day of the death of Vincent's brother Paul, we tirelessly returns to ourselves and although they may be significantly different from those of Paul to our own experiences. Note that the historical facts recounted in the novel such as, for example, the arrival of television in homes, May 68, the legalization of abortion, the death of Franco, the last execution before the abolition of the death penalty, the coming to power of the Socialists, the fake mass grave of Timisoara, the first war in Iraq, strikes of 95, etc ..., contribute greatly to make us Paul Blick familiar life and forge links between him and us, French readers (and this, regardless of our age). "A French Life" won the Prix Femina 2004. I knew the girls had good taste. I now have irrefutable proof.
