The canon EOS 550D, I just bought with a target of 18-135 brand, is a very complete device. The settings can satisfy the hobbyist (it will use pre-defined categories that are selectable by a wheel directly at hand) as well as the pro (everything is detachable). But it is the quality of the photos he must speak: if the bridges give good pictures (I also have a Panasonic Lumix), look closely, the record is not as accurate and precise that with the Canon. I found myself taking pictures at night in the city that have been a great surprise. Very easy to recharge its battery, it is not too heavy and ultimately it is not very different in this aspect of a bridge. It's all about cost: to make the macro, it will take another objective of the brand and those are expensive. In conclusion: if you hesitate between a bridge and the Canon, take this reflex that you will long seen its versatility. 5/2/2011
