Bridge Over Troubled Water (40th Anniversary Edition) (Audio CD)

Customer Review

There are many great artists and this has created many thousands of full-length albums. This should be understood not only high-volume top sellers. An album is just something else, to have a completely different effect than a eizelnes still so great song. I mention this because just Paul Simon in a recent interview expressed the hope that this format remains "album" of humanity in this medium. In haptic form, as physical media, whether vinyl, CD, DVD, or what is also still coming, but not just individual songs as virtual ground. That would be a loss of trouble, an important piece of culture that would be lost there. Even if I could be his grandson, I'm referencing Paul Simon entirely d'accord, it is worthwhile for the format and its preservation as an art form.
Beyond the original album "Bridge Over Troubled Water" - here in the anniversary edition on the first CD original and unadulterated, just gently and very well remastered to find - have nothing more to be said, everyone knows the songs, she loves or loves they do not, but even if not, acknowledges considering the quality of Songwritngs.
The album is one of those all-time classics, to the big productions of musical history that almost everyone is familiar with, at least any of the music is more than mere everyday accompaniment. It is one of those albums where not matter whether you like them personally or has ever even ever fully heard, where her title falls just casually in a conversation, you immediately have the cover in mind. The big albums as "The Wall" by Pink Floyd or "Harvest" by Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen's "Born in the USA" or "So" by Peter Gabriel, "Thriller" by Michel Jackson and Bob Dylan's "Highway 61 Revisited" and certainly national formative About albums like "Steppenwolf" by Peter Maffay, Herbert Grönemeyer's "4630 Bochum" or "Buy Me" by Die Toten Hosen. John Lennon, Phil Collins, Meat Loaf, Udo Jürgens, Madonna and David Bowie, they all have at least one such album. You can hear the title and immediately the image in mind. No doubt, in this category, out of S & G "Bridge ...", with now more than 26 million units sold, for decades. Probably the-Cover is even the most famous photo of S & G at all (yes, next to the picture of course, on the Paul Simon transmits this schmo cap, cover the "Greatest Hits").
The bonus makes the anniversary edition at an even more powerful work. On a second CD contains 17 live recordings of S & G "Sounds of America Tour" received by October 31 to November 28, 1969. This CD, although appeared a few years ago already separately (but not in Germany!), Here but to integrate in the anniversary edition is heavy sense because it belongs absolutely to do this because it all happened so to speak simultaneously. Because during the current tour, the studio album was recorded in November 1969 (concretely am 2/8/9/14 / November 15 were the studio sessions). Today unimaginable! No tape, no musician would work today such and import in this way, on the wing in the truest sense of the word, such a century-album, only five recording days, while on days before, between and after the Tour- operating in full swing.
The live album is therefore a more than useful addition, especially since some of the songs at the time not yet published album have also been performed live. It looks very strange, when an absolute worldwide hit, today everyone can hum, is anmoderiert as completely new song and have the audience feel your way firstonce on this new unknown "Bridge over dingsda" and would be if with "Sound of Silence" after again heard an old acquaintance.
As far as the double CD edition.
For just a few euros more, you get the 2CD + DVD edition of anniversary edition, which I would prefer, because the third shekel of lush deluxe sets provides a more than two-hour DVD two wonderful documentary films. The 1969 sent only once at CBS and lost in the archives tour documentary "Songs of America" and the new, specially produced for this release, composed by Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel in 2010 making-of documentary "The Harmony Game". Wonderful! For fans indispensable cinematic insights.
Along with a detailed booklet is the deluxe set of the album a completely harmonious and beautiful publication and a good argument rich plea of the above suggestion, the advantages of the physical album compared to the arbitrariness of a computer file are obvious.

The only criticism or rather Irritation point would be the release date. "Bridge Over Troubled Water" was released in February 1970 - the 40th Anniversary Edition in March 2011 !!! So I've repeatedly recalculated and interviewed experts, it was agreed, also taking into account the time difference, it to accept me. The thing came 13 months too late !?
