Just as it also conveys the subtitle of the book. "The Trouble with Chickens: A JJ Tully Mystery". Written by Doreen Cronin in 2012 and in English Orginial to lengths entertaining simply because the puns of the English language so much better here comes into play - and there are plenty.
On 120 pages - the last an outlook on the next case - is told as a rescue dog, who ended his career for reasons of age and now his charity gets on a farm, is faced with a very strange kidnapping case.
A hen, Millicent by name and not as Henrietta in the German translation, needs his help because two of their chicks have disappeared. But for Tully see more like popcorn chicken on two legs and it is not really easy to find, especially if a heavy rain lets the scent trail disappear and the hen makes him quite nervous because he still never a direct in-this Eye gaze is dodged, but her eyes are so close together that it starts to squint themselves, as happens to him.
From the actual action is here not reveal too much - it is designed very manageable and absolutely appropriate for children in the few pages because the reading age is somewhere between 6 and 10 years.
It is also rather laconic narrative style that makes the book so amusing, even for older readers.
JJ, as narrator, is the story in the style of a private investigator-been for the best. For a cheeseburger it is ready to find the missing chicks and caught up in the sinister plan of a cunning opponent. Its English name Vince, also clearly matching sounds as Kalle how he should read in the German translation.
The book is beautiful and richly illustrated by Kevin Cornell illustrating in an ingenious way. The pictures tell the story to another visual level just as impressive as the laconic style of speech of the dog.
Divided into 23 chapters plus epilogue, each section between two and four pages each having a story developed with compelling characters, witty story and lots of humor and action, and a pinch of tension.
So who is the English language and having fun at really good situation comedy
and a funny story is, just right. However, one should not expect. But if your expectations are not too high demands on the story, you will be entertained.
Are not only suitable for young readers, but also for adults who have a lot more fun with the original version, as with the German translation.
From the series to JJ Tully have so far published:
