I have most of the available interpretations belongs. None can hold a candle to this. It is played as I imagine that Bach had intended. No unnecessary frills, no stresses slow play with staccato, no grandstanding. Ashkenazy's game is harmonious, simple, natural, pure, it leaves it up to the listener to interpret and not patronized him what he has heard. Really an overwhelming listening experience.
