The clearly weakest Zeppelin album ...

Coda / Remaster (Audio CD)

Customer Review

... Although you can not really call it a regular album, since the songs that did not make it to the previous albums, and thus come from different recording sessions, were packed together.
Thus, it seems understandably disjointed and the sound varies logically enormous.
What, however, should primarily focus attention, of course, is the quality of the songs and some pieces you could tell why they did not make it on the regular albums.
"Walter's Walk" from the "Houses of the Holy" sessions as indeed has very good ideas, but sounds - especially the sound - plenty of half-baked and immature and the vocals of Robert Plant unconvinced really.
Then there are "Ozone Baby" from the Stockholm sessions of "In Through the Out Door" and that's pretty much the only song by Led Zeppelin, which I would describe as really bad - it sounds like a monotonous pop song and eternal " Oh, she's my own true love "annoying quite violently after some time. Of course there were always a couple of previously weaker Zeppelin-pieces ("D'yer Mak'er", "Hot Dog" etc.), but really bad for me only "Ozone Baby".
Good points, but some half-baked: For "Wearing And Tearing" of the same sessions the same as for "Walter's Walk" applies.
By contrast, decorated with wonderful piano playing of Jones, refreshing rock and roll number "Darlene" with "Poor Tom" is in my opinion the best song on the album.
"Poor Tom" comes from the sessions for "Led Zeppelin III" and you can hear that the relaxed country atmosphere of the song with acoustic guitar, the loose shuffle groove and harmonica also clearly on.
Still remain the driving cover "We're Gonna Groove", the person with his aggressive drums and his energy quite well I like that in his quality at least as successful version of "I Can not Quit You Baby" as the first album , considering that the recording was made during a soundcheck and Bonhams percussion piece "Bonzo's Montreux". The latter is certainly not just a Oberhammer, but with his steelpan sounds quite funny. Bonzo's legacy flat and why should not man, it also quietly grab an album so.
Overall, one can say that "Coda", while not bad, but not nearly as good as the previous eight Zeppelin works. In addition, the playing time of 33 minutes really downright miserable. While claiming the rest of the band, they had a hard time finding enough material, but it would have also, for example, "White Summer" or "Hey Hey What Can I Do", which was previously included in single-B-Sides, can do with it.
But that was a Mr Page only when you publish the boxed set with all the studio albums the band. Smells somehow to rip ...
So a star deduction for the weaker songs and a deduction for the miserable season.
