Arrau was my favorite.
And then I discovered Brendel. It is extraordinary. Brendel is the link between the classical Beethoven, close to Haydn, Beethoven and the romantic. It is interesting, however, to listen to Brendel in the sonatas of Haydn!
It is a great vision. Among my favorites: 5 6 7 sonatas, the 17th (the third movement of the 17th is a masterpiece), the Hammerklavier whose slow movement is here a sublime interiority. But all are beautiful, even poor sonata "to thérèse", says it all ...
