The masterpiece of the Beatles

Sergeant Pepper's (CD)

Customer Review

'Sgt Pepper' is a revolution in pop music, but more by form than substance. Several things on this disc are different from what was until then before. Thus (and that's why I was talking about 'form') the cover with lyrics and paperboard cut. Well, here it is not the subject ... Musically, one of the major findings is not to be left blank between each song, which is to this record from being considered the first concept album. And the arrangements are of great innovation ... The fact of having so also used classical instruments in a Pop-Rock disc is also innovative. So much for the form. Basically, they are very bright Pop melodies. Because we do not talk as if this record in it that had been mediocre compositions. It is clear on 'Sgt Pepper' McCartney took the reins of the group. He signed 6 titles where Lennon did sign 4. Still Lennon signs the dreamlike "Lucy in the sky with diamonds" and its line (Intro) hypnotic, psychedelic "Being for the benefit of Mr. Kite" and much of the monumental "A day in the life". McCartney may well be the main arranger (George Martin), even when these are three of the very best compositions of John Lennon. In terms of composition, McCartney plays the quantitative but also qualitative. The thundering "Sgt Pepper" which introduces vinyl's still an original and very good piece. It was he who composed "With little help from my friends" brilliantly played by Ringo Starr. "She's leaving home" is one of his most wonderful ballads. Note that in this song, there are only conventional instruments. But it is also in 'Sgt Pepper' is felt strongly that 'magic McCartney': Simple Pop compositions, sometimes unpretentious, like "Getting better," "Fixing a hole" or "When I'm 64 "is this kind of melodies that fit into our heads without anyone noticing and we will sing all day. Finally, remind that the middle section of "A day in the life" due. Harrison has failed to regain his level of Revolver (but since Lennon-McCartney are waiting for you, it was hard). However, signs a composition, the mystic Raga-Pop "Within You, Without You 'which is what makes the best in the West in faux Hindu music style.
So yes, this album is the 'Beatles' Masterpiece' (the masterpiece Beatles) because there are great songs as often, but with a 'cohesion' and an innovation that finds only rarely thereafter at The Beatles but also throughout the Pop Music.
