Most:
- The image quality is excellent. Even at f / 2. But we regret that the opening as soon as you zoom quickly slips a little.
- The images are neutral, it feels good! Some find them boring, but you can do what you want in postproduction.
- The auto white balance is perfect.
- You can play with the depth of field (thank you to the sensor 1.5 "and larger apertures
- Frankly: 25-120mm is top! In reporting / vacation is exactly what you need
- The screen is oriented at 180 ° allows pictures under unusual angles.
- The finish is impressive
- The autofocus is very fast
- The dynamics are excellent, it is not afraid of high contrast areas
- The device can be used by novices, but experts will find a true complement to SLR
- The WiFi connection allows you to transfer the photos on tablet or smartphone, and even with trigger. I mostly used the first function on my vacation to ensure the safeguarding of my images.
- The touchscreen is ultra responsive (it is the EOS 70D) and you can either: to focus, to focus and capture the image (ie snapshot) or do nothing all.
- The menus are clear, we found it easily
- The auto ISO mode allows you to choose the maximum level is not exceeded, but also minimum speed.
- Scheduled on the toothed ring, zooming is done in increments of focal lengths: 25, 28; 35; 50, 85, 100 and 120mm
- The objective is stabilized. Combined with the excellent ISO mounted, you can shoot handheld at night and get great good clean shots!
The negative points:
- The screen appears weak (but I've had no problems when I use, and I have been kind apas)
- The battery life is short, especially when using the WiFi connection
- The weight is felt
- The two knobs (smooth, notched the other) have failed, nothing serious
- The image styles gaps (although present on all other brand devices)
- The grip is not the most comfortable, but the ability to trigger from the screen overcomes the problem
- Device stays large for a compact, it will take that into account
- The zoom ring does not offer the same precision that a mechanical manual ring
- Attention to the ignition, zooming deploys approximately 7cm. Care should be taken not to hit something.
Personal opinion: I find it great. Coming from a Nikon Coolpix A, I find that the G1X mark II is the most advanced solution to avoid lugging u nreflex without being limited by the sensor size or focus. The zoom lens offers a versatile range, meets most of my needs. The possibility to play a little with the depth of field also. Autonomy was less catastrophic than I thought, but two batteries will not be too much. At the sight of the net on tests, I expected a less efficient and the image quality significantly worse machine. I found my perfect traveling companion. In contrast, under the screen offer less pleasure than the reflex viewfinder and the look is less sexy than competing models. But the image quality and the possibilities (responsiveness of the autofocus, image quality, etc ...) make you forget these defects.
The price is high but embedded technology will pay. I do not regret my purchase. And if I preferred this box to mark III RX100 is for general image quality and purity of RAW achieved, even in low light!
