The mysterious crab.

The Adventures of Tintin, Volume 9: The Crab with the Golden Claws (Hardcover)

Customer Review

The title of this album has always seemed puzzling, I would say even more: mysterious. Visually, how the crab could it be the Golden Claws while originally the album was in black and white? In edition crab color is red on the cans meant to contain opium, increasingly strange ... In the reminder of the title on the front page, the crab is yellow on black, but in its entirety, not just clips.

What is so esoteric meaning behind the mystery? One explanation could well up the names of the cargo: the "Karaboudjan". In patois Marollien, from a Brussels neighborhood, crab says "karab", "boud" means the ends, the ends, so the claws and "jan" means yellow, so gold. Karaboudjan Brussels could be the name of a cargo ship named "Crab with the Golden Claws"! The mystery deepens, especially as Germaine Remi, Hergé's wife was addicted to astrology and zodiacal signs in cancer is the crab! More and stronger, how secretive it George!

History of resting neurons, I would like to digress and go back to childhood: do you imagine the shock of knowing all these kids Tintin by subsequent albums (Explorers on the Moon, The Calculus Affair) so familiar to character Captain Haddock and who discovered here ignoring Tintin, even making him ill and alcoholic to strangle the last degree. At the time, I took it as a betrayal and I have taken years to the end of the story ...

To return to the crustacean, is not that there is little, being rather slow the medulla, the solution appeared to me in its extremely simple facts: at the very end of the album, when Tintin capture the villain drug dealer (an anachronism from Hergé: how could the drug exist at that time because rock and roll had not been invented yet), he and the captain realize that the Moroccan thug carries two golden claws neck under his bathrobe.

But where is the crab ...? Damn, but it's of course! His name is Omar! (Ben Salaad).

Ah, killing me!
