Gilmour liked the compositions very well, what is now, with the knowledge of an additional 30 years, can only marvel in disbelief. But Gilmour in 1977 had lost a little motivation in PF, and it was at this time only right that Waters took responsibility. Richard Wright played here already no longer relevant, and gave it later candidly in interviews. "Roger came, I put the notes on the piano, and I played as a studio musician my part. Compositionally I could absolutely nothing to contribute to the album."
And yet, was "Animals" a huge success, despite critics scolding. The fans liked the album, which is to this day, although still undervalued, but still boasts some of the best compositions of PF. As Gilmour actually cooperated only to the arrangements, he had plenty of time to play his solos. And this is precisely where the strength of the album: Gilmour's guitar solos are so awesome to this gloomy music fitting that the album gets a touch again blacker.
Certainly the absolute zenith was with "Animals" achieved since the 1980 published "The Wall" is only begin to compare in terms of creativity with earlier works. Since changing the astronomical sales figures no truth.
