Allen hasty critics had said, please listen carefully before is dealt here vigorous and wrongly! Also I had to pull myself together after the first great disillusionment to make this work again act calmly to me. But as it has been for all Dream Theater discs, and for me that is a guarantee of their quality. Ever since "Images & Words" should be clear that this band is more than just a Progressive Metal band. Dream Theater are five full-blooded musicians, which stylistically do not establish boundaries, and want to achieve the musical still new goals, unlike many bands that do not move for years on the spot. As a fan, you should therefore be open to go even if certainly not in conformity with all muss.Und yet "Octavarium" a great album has become, except that, the title track, as a collaboration of "Infinity falling into" and "Train Of Thought "sounds. "The Root Of All Evil" is a rifflastige, classic midtempo number that is both lyrically and musically inspired by "The Glass Prison" and "This Dying Soul", and so the third part of the "Saga" to Mike Portnoy's fight against representing alcoholism. This number is not very progressive in the strict sense, but it is characterized by its effective set, hard hitting riffs and a goosebumps chorus that this song an absolutely thrilling opener macht.Danach hear nature sounds, a church bell ringing in the distance: it will immediately Pink Floyd's "High Hopes" recalls. A subtle, melancholy piano intro sounded and continue the journey with the ballad "The Answer Lies Within". Comparable with "Hollow Years" and "Disappear" it takes some time before this, of course, for Dream Theater ratios rather simplistic structured track, stuck in the frickelverwöhnten convolutions. But then reveals the beauty of the melodies, which is supported by the use of a string ensemble and James LaBries expressive vocals. "These Walls" is very melodic, riffbetonter song, makes the Dream theater name. Frying guitars with great keyboard melody change with easily audible, spheric musical sound and clean guitar, creating a sad, wistful atmosphere. Very emotional, not least because James LaBries vocals and a very nice Petrucci - Solo.Zu another highlight of "Octavarium" counts "I Walk Beside You". Again, show the songwriting qualities of the band, which thus proving once again that it is able to compose short, concise songs with high recognition value. This song is for me a kind of follow-up version of "Speak to Me", a song from the "Falling Into Infinity" Schreiber phase which until now only live, during the '98 "Unplugged" - could be heard show in Rotterdam, (and see on the "Once In A Lifetime" DVD). A life-affirming, tune stressed number that has often been compared in advance with U2. Great! But with "Panic Attack" this mood is the same again brought to collapse. A nimble bass melody that reminds playfully Myungs model Steve Harris leaves, guess uneasy. And immediately rolls a pounding, nerve-wracking Riffkanonade by eavesdropping flap of the inclined listener. Here the accelerator pedal is depressed suicidal from start to finish. A track that unmistakable in the aftermath phase of "Train Of Thought" originated ist.Danach it goes without respite on. "Never Enough" is a wonderfully tough grooving particles that Jordan Rudess' new Continuum introduces us for the first time very clearly audible. Spacey solos mate with razor sharp riffs and song very useful whipping Drums of Mr. Portnoy. Here is dispensed with superfluous many tempo changes gimmicks so as not to take the song his "drive". The melodies are very first Sahne.Das resembles the following intro to "Sacrificed Sons" to that of "The Great Debate". Votes - confusion, edited together from the American media repertoire, and even Arabic Comments can be heard. This song is an epic, dramatic and captivating implemented unmistakable Dream Theater comment to reverberant September 11, 2001. The ballad first part flaunts a bombastic chorus, whose action is supported by a fifteen-piece orchestra. Part two heralds tough, playful Insrumentalpart where supply is Rudess and Petrucci their obligatory solos battles. Part three leads musically again back to the beginning, but it has got harder riffing and a stunning orchestral sound. James LaBrie developed at the end even vocally towards Bruce Dickinson. Class! And finally, "Octavarium", a 24 minute musical adventure of the extra class !!! Here join Dream Theater 70s-inspired melodies with all its own trademarks, which they have published over the years. Even the Continuumintro chasing a goosebumps down the spine. "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" Greetings. A sad flute solo follows (by the way, of course, not canned, as falsely claimed), and the story begins. Lyrically known song titles from z. B. Genesis or the Beatles are recited. Dream Theater celebrate without inhibitions and without restrictions progressive music. The musical competition is pointed here at least once in their place. And the good end is yet to come. After more than sublime instrumental - roller coaster ride the completely flattened audience can expect a rock - symphonic finale, which does not seem to be of this world. Such a melancholic bombast without any kitsch factor you have not yet received from the men heard. The orchestra does a fantastic job and imposes itself at no time in the foreground. Had Dream Theater as famous as the Beatles, Genesis or Pink Floyd, etc., etc., this would be already a landmark for eternity. World class! Dream Theater have come up with "Octavarium" certainly not reinvented, but they have their sound audible and musically refined done a great job again. Therefore, the consequence can only be five star after intensive listening. I won!
