The Game
In STO controlling a Captain of a Föderations- or Klingon Raumer, each Member Federation as the game begins. The Klingons will be unlocked later and also rise more by fighting player versus player rank on. The game itself has two levels, a space combat plane and a Bodenkampf- or exploration level. Most story missions in the game consist of a mixture of both: Man flying wherever, explored or shoots from a ship, then beamed down, making further below. The space combat is well done, it's great fun to fly through the detailed and colorful universe. The ground combat Personally I like well, even if he is a bit too light, and is no doubt, as well as here many have written, behind the fun space battles back. Also, the area, a mini instance, very manageable - but honestly reminds me always something on the TNG episodes that have a planet always readjusted only a very small part in a studio. That's why it has somehow flair. His ship and his "Avatar" can be left with objects that destroyed ships or dead enemies, upgrade.
Graphic
The graphics are nice, but not overwhelming. Nevertheless, like the detail: hardly an instance or card where a planet is not moved from rings, scrap asteroids want to fly around the room or slides. Space, the station and the characters are colorful and have a slightly comic way 'certainly a relic of the engine, which was designed by the manufacturer actually a superhero game. This is in contrast to EVE Online, the other major space-MMO where one has ventured to a realistic space. There I also get the space just in front to empty.
Instantiation and free world
STO is fully instantiated. Even from the same area, there are usually several instances in which you are traveling with a limited number of people. This has the disadvantage that the world does not act coherently, but the advantage that all the players are on the road on a server - the risk as in other games, having to again start from scratch, because the buddies or colleagues on a different server are, there is not characterized.
Battle or exploration
The main focus, and certainly the criticism of most fans, is on the battlefield and less on the peaceful exploration and diplomacy. Sure would have a sort of "Sims in space" works as Star Trek Online. But elements of this game are missing completely, which is a shame, because of the presence of bridge officers (AI controlled companion in ground combat, which you can issue commands and bring in the space combat skills) to such things as love affairs, professional problems or personal quests had offered for the officers - and from such a thing existed indeed most Star Trek episodes. However, if you are honest, the consequences to the space combat in Star Trek always the best - I would personally always prefer the TNG episode "Attack of the Borg" or DS9s "The Way of the Warrior" of the episode, in which Jadzia Dax in love with the new host of her former lover, and discussed with him for 40 minutes about the sense and nonsense of this liaison. That a dialogue-heavy Adventure can not be Star Trek Online, as many want, is clear: As fast remains the online idea by the wayside. In this respect I am personally satisfied with the focus, even if there would be much more possible. But that might come.
State of the game
You can tell already that Cryptic very loving to his baby care: In the first few weeks it was patched almost daily and even now meets weekly added new content. The main criticisms, namely lack Endcontent and easy gameplay are, however, still remained. But Cryptic is working so that wait at STO certainly very worthwhile.
For whom is the game?
The game is definitely not for hardcore MMO players. For the game is quick to finish, it is fast durchgepowert through the game and quickly to maximum level. These players had for a good 2 to 3 weeks because without content and complain since no content is there. Sad to say: to right.
But I think for the game is not even made. Rather for the Group, which does not have much time to deal many hours a day with the game and in the evening to enjoy the one or other episode, such as the missions in STO say. As the adventure friends who like "A Final Unity" or "Judgement Rites", hardly get their money, it is really just for Star Trek fans something who want to play "casual" MMO.
Conclusion
Who likes Star Trek, does not have much time, you fly through a colorful space and not interfere with the monthly costs for the Star Trek Online is a, if not the game. All others should leave it alone, or wait until the manufacturer Cryptic has further expanded the game.
