Unfortunately, for the first time in the series, the explanations of the characters, their nests, small strategic meetings, debriefings, take precedence over the action and the storyline. This is the first time I feel small beaches boredom reading a Mercy Thompson.
It must be said that the wolves mixture werewolves / vampires / witches / changers / FAST / government agencies / deities and all the rest starts to get a little heavy ...
Yet the history of this seventh book is interesting, but the action is too often hampered by the long political discussions inter species, which tends to chop the story.
Furthermore the relationship Adam / Mercy, which is centered on the narrative, becomes downright painful repetitions of strength and cooing.
Certainly, the characters are still as endearing: Patricia Briggs always manages to create real personalities with little touches she has the secret.
But for the first time in this episode, I sometimes had the impression of being in a tent, watching a circus show. The best characters (Stefan, Ben, Zee, Asil) are a small number before returning the background, they are so numerous that they end the adventure reduced to the roles of extras.
In addition, some intrigues are not resolved at the end of the book.
It remains of course a very good entertainment, essential for fans of the series.
