First of all:
Yes, I am Tocotronic fan since the first plate.
Yes, I have the time, Palestinian scarves bearing I WANT PART OF A youth movement BE sang and was grateful for that has finally brought fresh air into the mostly boring, German-language rock music, the Hamburg School.
One star, however, does not come from the fact that I want to hear from the men become older now and over again anthems of frustration and bad abgemischtes strumming.
Every artist must, should and must continue to evolve and every band has of course the right to change their sound. At the same time, however, the listeners also have the right, the artists say in the face when a development simply produces crap.
Not every change is alone deswegn great and welcomed because it is a change.
Often (it has indeed already have experience with the stars and Blum field) is driving this change and reorientation the artist in such a boring and meaningless realm that the former fresh, creative spirit of a band is nothing left.
That should indeed like to see each other, but for me these last Tocotronic LP the definitive end of my long-standing love for this band.
The 'new sound' here is not the problem.
With whom I can not give me quite make friends, but (sorry Dirk) the texts have become absolutely intolerable.
While on the previous albums still at least 2 or 3 really good songs were (Question of the doubt, it does not make itself, My Ruin) so I can stand on this LP, even after repeated listening not a single song without touching almost embarrassed to head to shake.
Reim you or I will strike thee may perhaps in the highest perfection indeed be art .... but just art for art's sake.
Pointless Aneinandergereihe of lyrical stillbirth does not automatically a good text, just because it sounds nice and somehow lifted.
Addiction someone still looking for a statement in the songs?
If you ask me, the only statement on the new album that Dirk has fully adopted the principle of the statement and only together tinkering word constructs that sound kind of nice.
Since change lurid titles such as THE REVOLUTION is in me nothing about it.
Should perhaps the text serve only as another sound element and convey anything more?
Should these sound constructs now the public are served, which originally belongs Pur and since gray clouds also has a field Blum LP?
If so: Please, your prerogative, but I must not do this to me.
That touched me no longer, is nothing to me, does not solve anything more from non-resignation and disgust, my ears do that to.
German-speaking bands make nice with pleasing song structures and catchy choruses, there are enough .... just hurts somehow, that I now have to count to Tocotronic by Blum field and the stars.
A masterpiece?
I hope hard that Tocotronic not go with this album as a masterpiece in the history, but with albums that were really outstanding, creative and moving as I do not care, or even BUT KOOK.
Dirks unfortunately increasingly makes the spherical drift finished singing for me the whole thing even more unbearable, but of course fits perfectly to the overall construct.
I am not one of those who after 20 years always new songs like Freiburg, It's just rock music or I detest you want to hear because of your cabaret deeply.
That was good, THEN great.
Songs like my ruin or in doubt for doubt showed on later albums, that there's excellent songs to discover a new style, in a new guise.
On the new album I think, unfortunately, nothing more, what Tocotronic once identified or sets them apart from dozens of other bands.
I wish you all the best, the way that you think is going to have .... but as of now without me :-)
