The Animal Years (Audio CD)

Customer Review

The name Josh Ritter says this country hardly anything to anyone. More success has been the ambitious artists in Ireland. Popularity is indeed known not everything, but it would be a shame if the music of the ambitious US artist does not reach a wider public. Knight songs are among the best that can be heard from the current singer / songwriter track these days.

With "The Animal Years" succeeds Josh Ritter, the listener to mediate, although usually gentle and quiet, but remains sustainable in the ears an atmospheric journey through different landscapes, times and social forms. The deep and really felt religiosity that brings the artist and his music expressed, integrates seamlessly with time-critical texts ("Girl In The War") and the eternal attempt to understand the world ("In The Dark") together. In other songs we are told of fascinating travel (emphasis is given the title "Monster Ballads", which tells of Egypt) and a declaration of love to the US state of Idaho ("Idaho"). Another consistent theme is love (also "Girl In The War", "One More Mouth", the casual "Good Man" and in particular "Here At The Right Time"). Lyrical highlight of the album is the penultimate track "Thin Blue Flame", which is equivalent to a single large sermon (almost ten minutes) and in the form of an imaginary search for and understanding of the> Royal City
Conclusion: Josh Ritter's new album "The Animal Years" is in my opinion one of the most successful musical content as singer / songwriter albums of last year and should be in every good music collection. In order to bring the knight issues travel to a point:

"The animal and the divine, both in us."
