I have the TechniStar S1 and the Kathrein ordered 903 sw together and both now being tested for a week. Below is my resumé.
In my opinion, the TechniStar is optically better managed, especially it is substantially smaller than the Kathrein.
Installation worked both with no problems. Positive, the stations were at Kathrein already sorted, the Technisat you had to manually adjust the list again because ARD HD and ZDF HD lay on 500+, but this is in itself a problem.
Boat and standby time go a little faster when Kathrein by hand, but the switching times when Technisat are lower, I find important personal.
For image quality: Kathrein super, there is nothing to complain about. When TechniStar also stepped forward to the known blocks. Since yesterday / day before yesterday Technisat has a firmware update provided (2.46.0.2-1486f), which should correct this error. After a successful update, the picture problems and audio dropouts are gone with me.
The image is now as good as the Kathrein, subjectively, I find it a even a tad better.
EPG is great at both. The Aufnahnmefunktion I have not tested, but also plays a minor role for me. The TechniStar can bring via LAN cable into his own net. Streaming mp3s and pictures from my NAS worked without problems, unfortunately, he recognizes only Vidoes in mpg or VOB format. Too bad, was just avi. As a firmware update would be nice. The remote controls are both devices top. When TechniStar can hold out this where you want and the receiver takes every keystroke was.
I'll probably keep TechniStar. If only because it is much smaller in size and the possibility of HD + retrofit.
From me the TechniStar gets (but only with the latest firmware) 5 star and a Kaufempehlung. For the price the device is top.
Many Greetings
Steve
