In this analysis from 2008 on the evolution of the world, Hubert Védrine proposes a middle way between the clash of civilizations (Huntington) and the end of history (Francis Fukuyama). He refutes these theories and tries to chart a course for the future of France, Europe and international organizations. He rejects the too idealistic analyzes, for example on Europe without nations or global governance associative to the detriment of the States. He tries to find the fundamental elements, especially acceptable and realistic, to be taken into account in the near future and medium term within which States still have a bright future.
Very easy to read and rich experience of Hubert Védrine, this book provides a good summary of recent developments in our history and future prospects. After five, thinking is still relevant even if some historical examples are outdated (eg regarding the ratification of the Lisbon Treaty).
