Top Beamer, unfortunately with rainbow effect

Introduction:

In this review I want to mainly deal with the sogenennten "rainbow effect" (RBE). Therefore, the pros and cons of the projector are not otherwise listed again, but there are already plenty of other reviews. Only very briefly summarized as follows: For the offered price of the projector is absolutely top, the image is sensational, it offers various settings etc. But ...

But only to the actual subject of my review: I am very sensitive when it comes to the RBE. I had, for example, also the BenQ W1070 ordered and tested, although it showed a less pronounced RBE, but not suitable yet for me (see my review local).

The problem with the contrast:

Here a brief explanation of DLP and RBE. A DLP projector for home work (as opposed to an LCD projector or a digital projector in the cinema, see below) with only one panel - therefore the "screen" on which the image is displayed. This presents itself but no color is, but the colors are generated by the Panel, the images of all three colors (and sometimes additionally white or similar) is fast succession. This view is perfectly synchronized with an RGB color wheel, which is located in the light path so that always is just the right color segment in light gear when the panel produces the associated images. The combination of the two components thus producing the color image which is given by the lens outward to the canvas. The eye can - at least in theory - this process does not perceive ...

And that's been the real problem:

The rotation of this color wheel produces but now supposedly at about 10% of people irritation of the eyes. You can see this effect at all-contrast transitions. So very extreme example, black object against a white background or vice versa. These contrasting transitions of this sensitive man sees colorful flashes of light. These flashes of light caused by the fact that the eye / brain react to Schell and sensitive and the intention to deceive the eye by the Panel / Farbradkombination not work everywhere. This actually better performance of people, unfortunately, so perverted when considering a so generated DLP image reversed.

RBE "provoke":

For the effect sensitive people the RBE can also provoke deliberately by moving her eyes rapidly from side to side. These things I have not done naturally in my tests, what sense would also do. Of course it is so that you (especially with a large image on a screen) has the eye naturally always make a difference in order to follow the events can. Then high-contrast transitions vorhenden, the RBE is even more apparent. But even without eye movement we can see the RBE unfortunately.

The BenW TH681:

While the image of the BenQ W1070 exhibited only a slight RBE in stark contrast transitions, the effect is more pronounced when BenQ TH681. Here, unfortunately, may also be performed to light contrast transitions an RBE. Far too disturbing to enjoy in peace a movie Unfortunately for me.

But where the difference from the very similar W1070? The TH681 uses a different color wheel, on which even a white element is also available. However, this means that the RBE is even more visible. The W1070 has gone towards a RGBRGB color wheel, that here is no white element is present, the RBE is therefore weaker, but unfortunately still visible.

RBE in the cinema?
-----------------
Why this effect does not occur actually in digital cinema? In modern cinema are almost ausschileßlich DLP projectors, but here no one can be perceived an RBE. The simple explanation is that there is no color wheel is available here. The digital cinema projectors feature three separate DLP panels to the color display, a color wheel is here therefore not necessary, therefore no rainbow effect occurs.

Conclusion:

As already written the beginning of BenQ TH681 a very good projector with a razor-sharp image and DLP therefore recommended to anyone who has no problem with the RBE. For sensitive people but I can not recommend the TH681 unfortunately. Therefore, I have sent back the projector to Amazon. In the review I draw from two Steren for unlike the W1070 more pronounced RBE. Otherwise, the projector is really good, which makes the RBE problem worse.

Alternatively, you could also try out the BenQ W1070! It seems the awareness of the RBE namely admit in verschienenen forms. There are people, for example, the TH681 perceive the RBE, the W1070 fortunately not. Unfortunately, I belong probably to the "sensitive soul" and can also see the BenQ W1070 the RBE.
