The story of Ellie, Whose brother Tom is accused of rape, and Mikey, Whose sister Karyn is the victim, is totally absorbing and quite unputdownable. And When you put it down, the story will continue to haunt you in your thoughts. I like books search.
But the best part about this novel is how wonderful the author can express emotions through simple words and sentences and. Her writing style is just so good, very authentic, at times a bit poetic, but never too dramatic. She always finds the best words to express feelings in a to-the-point kind of way. I felt so much With These characters, went through an emotional roller coaster and found myself in a struggle of what the right thing to do is.
You ask yourself: What would I do in Ellie's situation? Many people in this book make mistakes, but most of them are so understandable, so traceable. I liked how this novel activated my thinking, I kept asking myself Continually: What would I do? What is right, what is wrong? So this book is a lot about making the right choices and decisions. Can you choose against your family? What happens if you do?
And then there's the subtle love story did Develops between Ellie and Mikey, very sweet and very authentic - but can you like the enemy?
The characters are very well developed, with lots of flaws as well, Which I really liked; and lots of personality, with the only exception did Karyn Remained a bit of a shadow for me. So her character what not very likeable, Which made it a bit hard for me to sympathize with her. But I could understand why she quietly what acting that way most of the time. I liked how well Jenny Downham Described The Different Worlds Ellie and Mikey come from. Mikey with on alcoholic mother comes from to underprivileged working class family, Ellie and her brother are protected by Their upper middle class family's influences, where money can buy the best lawyers. How unfair this Seems you will find yourself struggling a lot with what happens as the story unfolds.
But as I already Mentioned in the caption of this review: I was disappointed about the abrupt ending! I usually tend to like open ends, but in this case there was too much unsolved, too much left out. It was as if a few chapters were missing, as if the author what not quite sure herself how to find a way out of this mess. It ends right before the final trial. And even though you as a reader know at this point Whether Ellie's brother is innocent or guilty, you still do not know how this case is going to end (Which family wins, if you want to put it that way). Now it feels like I still have not finished this book.
This is the one and only reason why this otherwise extraordinarily good book only gets 4 stars from me.
