Crossroads (Audio CD)

Customer Review

Crossroads is m. E. by far the best album of the Afro-American singer-songwriter and singer Tracy Chapman. Although the album was released 22 years ago, it has lost none of its relevance, and which is known to something that characterizes only really works great. Because their message is the belief in justice, human and social, to truth and a self-determined life, the struggle against oppression, discrimination and racism, coupled with the request itself to remain faithful as a human being and one's own identity, also in spiritual sense, to be aware and to live according to moral standards and to act. Thus Crossroads conveys a universal message, a message that is understood everywhere in the world. This message is today, more than 20 years after the release of the album, more relevant than ever.

Musically, Crossroads, rather simple, like all albums by Tracy Chapman. There are no opulent instrumentation and arrangements, and they are also unnecessary, because they would dilute only the effect of the texts and the distinctive voice Tracy Chapman.

To evaluate the individual songs, is actually unnecessary, because there are no real weaknesses on this album. As outstanding yet are the title track "Crossroads", the slower pieces "Bridges" and "This Time" and mention the crowning glory "All That You Have Is Your Soul".

The overall review of this outstanding album can therefore only be: five stars out of five!
