Although he died at age 26 in a car accident (in which the pianist Richie Powell, brother of Bud Powell, also died), he left, as his career lasted less than 10 years, let an indelible mark in jazz. He had many disciples and continues to be a predominant influence for many trumpeters.
It is interesting to compare, at the same time, his game and that of his closest disciple Lee Morgan. Lee is a great musician, Clifford is a giant.
