"Pines" was for me an absolute revelation in 2012: An unknown but talented author with original ideas, excellent language, great implementation - I was thrilled. The second volume of the series is still above average. But after knowing now what's behind this whole "conspiracy", something the air is out. One lives and suffers with our good Sheriff namely with, but there are some sagging and lengths. Also, the whole plot - sorry, spoiler! - 1800 years in the future and there are only human mutants? Since evolution has however been working overtime! - But very very very unlikely and far-fetched and incredible. In spite of everything: Excellent entertainment and an author who gives us hope! Conclusion: Recommended - but not necessarily with the first volume "Pines", who is also the better, begin!
