I have a standard tripod but I bought the GorillaPod order to hang around, lay on sloping soils, rocks ... and it works great! I use this model with a 7D with a 17-55 f 2.8 lens, all weighing about 1.5 kg and I've never had fall problem. The patella provided is practical and functional.
Although installation is much longer than with a conventional tripod, GorillaPod will allow hitherto impossible pictures. In addition, it is small and therefore easily transportable, for long rides or outputs for example.
