I am always amazed what qualitative services to deliver today's entry-level cameras. Another two-camera generations before you had to grab much deeper into their pockets for similar clean images. Without nerves with details or even numerical values: noise and dynamics (input and output) are moving in an area where experienced amateur photographers can not complain. Sharpness and colors fall a bit crisper than in the higher class models, but can be still very good edit.
Especially if you umsteigt from a compact camera (which should be the case usually) you can enjoy the great picture quality. However, the Nikon D5100 is much more attractive due to numerous additional control functions and the great swivel monitor and is the DSLR beginners probably longer seem attractive.
The five-star rating is based on the claims of a DSLR newcomer.
Part 2:
Input I wrote "actually":
I myself use the D3100 as "emergency Camera". I stood twice as a result of theft or defect traveling suddenly without a camera there, and the best photo insurance profit a nothing, when you're just standing at the Pyramids of Giza. My request to the "emergency Camera" was therefore primarily beneficial to be small and light (and in the D3100 is terrific). You must not take up more space than an extra lens. At the same time they should just in case still can produce magazine printable material.
As an ambitious user who flirts contrary to all marketing strategies with a D3100 have to be set to the following:
- Good image quality with swabs from ISO800 and in the input dynamic
- No bracketing
- Resolution of the monitor bad, sharpness control only estimated possible
- No preview button, otherwise nice bright and large viewfinder
- Only a dial aperture and time
- ISO-election only menu
- No focus switch
- Do not forget crop factor ;-)
- Wildlife and sports photographers should look elsewhere, the D3100 takes his time
- Videographers should also look elsewhere, or take a separate audio recorder ;-)
