Next, even worse problem is the touchpad. Asus delivers here with drivers from Elantech which are the total joke. The older version works stable, but has thereby only the absolute basic functions, no tip areas, no edge scrolling, no gestures, etc. The latest version (even more than a year old), which can only be found on Google, has a few half-baked features more, but these verlierte at every waking from sleep, without any chance to restore it on the fly, only Windows will help to restart.
Here my device has even installed a Synaptics touchpad SYN0A13, but works none of the countless Synaptics driver that I have tested so - then you have only the option to change the function of the two mouse buttons.
The explanation is probably that Asus, the license costs the Synaptics software saves, it uses these dinky Elantech driver Synaptics and therefore a barrier to the drivers has, which disables features on this device. The touchpad is to use by this extremely limited functionality barely.
Another point, the fan runs virtually continuously. While the device is thus still very, very low and the background noise is dominated by the hard disk; Nevertheless, it is perceived in silent environment is 100%. I would have hoped that the fan in the ease of operation (typing texts, surfing) as possible is not running (but do not know if there are other netbooks that do that).
In Other I miss the ability to set a password for the hard disk in the BIOS, the option is gray and can not be selected. Looks as if ASUS here installed hard drives that do not support this function - I always thought that to all notebook panels.
EDIT: Apparently the BIOS (latest version 1202) has a bug. When I plugged an external USB hard drive and went to the BIOS, the operations for setting the master and user password for the internal (primary) HDD were suddenly available. As long as a user password is set, they work now, it will be asked at the start and you can set passwords in the BIOS change (even if no external HDD is connected). Only if one is disabled again, the function briefly an external drive is again grayed out and unavailable until when the contact is connected. I do not know how such a thing is possible.
Games seriously contemplating to send it back. Makes me too immature impression. Would at least the touchpad work well, I already think it would be a very nice device (which I have no experience with other netbooks. ASUS should rather save unnecessary Pipifax as the pre-installed games, the comic YouCam software or 500GB online storage and for the machine ansich equipped with at least one fully functional Synaptics touchpad or the offer, at least as a cost option. Had me quite a few euro more valuable.
Because then it would be a really nice device, as far as I can judge so far.
