Installation of HW:
At first I had taken the USB cable of Chromecast and replaced only the dongle. However, this led to errors in WLAN. Only with the private cable networking ran flawlessly. The EZCast has loaded once the latest update from the Internet.
Installation of SW:
I have only tried the EZCast Apps. This could be properly downloaded from Google Play or from iTunes goals. After the software is started, you have to, as in Chromecast, once denvom dongle provided wireless network to join. Now you should be able to mirror the screen already directly - but I somehow do not get. After the integration of the dongle into my wireless to get to EZCast surface, which provides a number of functions.
Mirroring with Android:
Since I was just interested in the video transmission from the Internet, I have tried this first with the screen mirroring. This worked by Android tablet easily, but movements were too slow. In many video color and pixel errors were shown. Mirroring the mobile phone was unfortunately constant in portrait mode and therefore not very usable.
Browser Casting:
The EZCast app includes its own browser (hence probably the 40MB size of the app), which could also play Flash content to my delight. Here you can a page, as usual, call the browser. A video stream is there, for example, started, so blinded to the simple device control symbols a (play / pause, volume + -). In addition, you could mark the edge the Bookmark the page and choose between Hiqh- and low-quality.
Playback of the video worked excessively. With high quality video had very often be paused so that the playback buffer can fill. The reason for this is difficult to determine - whether it is up to the hardware dongle, or a bad network connection?!?
I have followed the EZCast app tried again with the old Chromecast. This amazingly went better - indeed had stuttering and Buffer-breaks, but these were shorter and less frequent than when EZCast.
EZCast and Airplay:
According to the specification, the device should also be capable of airplay. It took a long time until I was able to connect the EZCast the iPad3, since it can not always be identified as AirPlay enabled device. Unfortunately, the current version was only the sound on the TV are played and this also with a delay.
My Conclusion:
The idea and the many features are promising, if they so function. Since the software is free and it was far better with the Chromecast, one must probably wait a bit.
