The box makes use of a processing perspective, a great impression. The door closes properly and securely, the plates sit well, nothing rattles, ... therefore supi! Why but makes the power connector on the side of the case, while all other connections are behind, you do not understand ... is also a pity that it was enough to no internal power supply - but (again) a power supply unit to use is not the one can off ... so that also attracts this box in the "off" state continues 1-2 watts (well, after all, surprisingly little)
A significant deduction gets the fans - power, at least in my device significantly crackling noises - which somehow gives the impression that he would not make it long ... The cooling performance was, however, (in the "auto" mode) absolutely OK. At full level of fan already makes some noise.
Clear CustomersLinked asses is the statement "strapless HDD installation" ... Although you do not need a "carrier", it's true, for a handle to be screwed onto each plate - which provides the insertion and removal of the panels easier and firm grip .. ie. nothing with "Just quickly" swap ne plate.
Inadequate is the enclosed instructions - which is mainly for the "RD" version ... and not even explain the function of the buttons sufficiently. In itself not tragic - but for the "SYNC" button it would have been nice if we could read what, "red" and "from" means "blue" ... obviously it's not fact (I'm still not sure today ). With some "trial and error" to get even someday it that the box does not automatically switch between USB and eSATA - but that one looong press nen button must ... Even with Raidsonc you hardly find information on this box.
Now to operate ...
The plates used were first not recognized ... :( play around for something I have the suspicion that you have to follow a certain order: Set the desired interface to the box, connect the box computer Start Windows, IB switch on ... with this sequence, the plates were in any case detected and found.
I have tested the box only via USB3 - because I do not have eSATA with Port Multiplier. With two current 3TB drives from Seagate I was able to measure positive transfer rates of up to 150MB / s ... so can be quite impressive!
At one eSATA port (without port multiplier), the plates were not found (not even a).
Then what is noticed quickly at several copying actions, was that the box sporadically loses the plates! In the midst of a copy action, Zack, plate away ... Considering the plate and puts it back in, the box apparently initializes all slots - at least immediately, the other plates were with me then always briefly away. I tried the box on three different computers (Windows / Linux) - only one computer, I could not understand this problem. It may be that here (and) there is a problem with the USB3 ports / drivers my computer - fact is however, that the three single case that I had previously never shown such problems ... The IcyBox therefore seems somewhat "picky" here to be ...
What is unfortunately not working at the stand clean the box ... actually the cabinets should be on / off when the computer up / shuts down ... after a long Probiererei the "SYNC" button that actually worked on a (!) my three test machines - unfortunately not in the, in which the plates were stable available! This has then stop the effect, that the computer is out - but the plates continue funny at the other computer ...
Line through the last two points, the box is not for me to use.
It may be that you could get solved by others (what ?!) USB3 card problems - as my current (! Cheap) but also not have USB3 housing these problems, I have no real desire (on) rumzuärgern me with this box or more money to invest in additional USB3 card. Incidentally, there are virtually the same box by Fantec - the local forums describe almost exactly the same problems ...
Bottom line: If the box works on your own computer, it's not bad (just for the price) but in general seems to be the USB3 connection to be rather problematic.
Small supplement:
I have now concerned especially for the computer, an additional USB3 card and connect the box on it. The automatic on / off with your PC works well ... but the plates say goodbye still sporadically when copying large amounts of data to / from the plates.
So I am sorry to say: too expensive, too for the attractive price yet ... the thing does not work reliably!
