The King of Fighters 98 (the original) was one of the first 2D fighting games I've ever played. It made me for a long time at a fan of the series.
"Ultimate Match" enriches the original game is now three-dimensional backgrounds, a color adjustment menu, additional versions of existing characters (5 "Orochi" versions and old versions of the characters from "Fatal Fury") and seven completely new characters, which for at least the scope of the character selection no one should be criticized.

The new mode "Ultimate" gives the player the opportunity to pick out his combat system from the old modes "Advanced" and "Extra" at will. An example: The Advance mode allows the selected fighters to run forward and recharge the Special Bar by hits on opponents. The extra mode can on the other hand to just short bouncer, but it allows to recharge the Special bar directly by holding the buttons. Ultimate now allows to combine these aspects freely. Initially perhaps irritating, it makes the game still in total beginner friendly.

In the area of ​​control, however KOF98UM is still more demanding than many comparable titles. Whoever wants to win here, can not simply cut blind on the buttons, but has to deal concretely with the moves of his characters. Who does not want to, engages better connections. Also suitable is the game for people who can not get anything classic pixel graphics. Could apply the game in 1998 even as verhätnismäßig impressive and fluid animated, the graphics look today (unfortunately) a bit frumpy.
