The operation is fairly intuitive. The scanner is ready for operation in: batteries and a (not included) Micro-SD card as it is for example used in mobile phones, insert; Enter the time and date and the SD card format - and away you go. However requires both the date input and formatting that a "key" in each one a small hole (marked "Time Set" and "Format") suppressed. This is only possible with a pointed object (such as a darning needle), a ballpoint pen refill is too thick for it. Is this done, it can really go.
The device is switched on by pressing and holding the "Power / Scan" button. The scan mode (color or monochrome) and the resolution (600 or 300 dpi) is set on another button. The selection is displayed on a small screen.
Now one sets the scanner to the sheet, the journal or book page, press again on "Scan" (LED is green) and dragging the scanner as uniformly as possible on the submission. The uniform pulling on the sides takes practice and 100 per cent, it will rarely succeed. Press again After finishing "Scan" - that's it. If problems arise, the LED lights up red.
The scanned image will be saved as a jpg file on the micro SD card and can be transferred to a PC for storage and further processing via the USB port.
Scan result
=============
Depending on the skill, the result is more or less well. A flat surface (eg a sheet of paper or a magazine page) provides better results than pages of a thick book. Here it may be helpful to keep one half of the book at an angle of 90 degrees and scan the other half, or (as repeatedly proposed) to put a box on the edge of book, to increase the contact surface.
The quality of files varies (as I said), however, if one is satisfied with the image files, acceptable. If you want to further process the scanned pages as text, with the supplied OCR software ("ABBYY Screenshot Reader") one can use. Ideally, the software converts the image files completely to text. In practice, the text recognition succeeds less well: is in black and white pages, the result is passable to good, with color pages poor to useless.
Conclusion
=====
Who wants to fast times scan a few pages of a book in a library, in order to spare themselves the laborious copying, or on the road wants to copy a journal article, is well served with this mobile scanner when its borders is aware.
