The dock I had some time purchased from another dealer and just wait for the official firmware update for the S3, since I'm not a fan of Flashing / Rooting. Now I do not want to warm up everything but the previously incurred in the reviews criticizing the Dock and Samsung because of the non-functioning of the S3 is absolutely legitimate, since Samsung expressly for both devices has (N-2 / S3) advertised and specified this dock ! Thus it is a warranted by the manufacturer of the equipment property that can not be easily bypassed with a restriction in the title.
But now back to the dock:
The interaction with S3 / 4.1.2 includes the ability to sound via HDMI (default) or to selectively output via 3.5mm audio-out (in Settings / Accessories / Audio Output Mode). Even the Dock mode is triggered and at the request of "desk-screen" (also under Accessories) triggered function and / or the new in 4.1.2 Page Buddy (Settings / Display / side Buddy / Dock-side). The former shows clock / calendar and short-cuts as well as a switch icon for the audio output instead of the home and lock screens. The display remains on, and as a screensaver jumps since the time around (I immediately disabled). The Buddy Page (stupid name) is an additional, special homescreen that appears when docking with appointments / Short-cuts and configurable Apps (very convenient).
If a (USB) mouse and HDMI is connected, the screen of the HDMI output in cross Issued is also switched off by S3 and (possibly a. Installed rotationally app you have it naturally off). Mouse is with me USB cable mouse or RF Nano receiver for a wireless mouse. A combined unit (Keyboard + Touchpad) has the fashion strangely not triggered, a keyboard alone I did not try.
Simultaneous use of HDMI and USB devices (sticks, mouse, 2.5-inch low-power USB disks or disks with extra power (though you need for NTFS an app), ...) as well as USB devices attached to a hub hang works and that is indeed the unique selling point of the dock and the 11-pin MHL terminals of N-2 and S3. There are no cable / adapter (neither Samsung nor from "China"), provide the MHL / HDMI and USB-OTG simultaneously.
The HDMI output works perfectly with my Full HD TV and a pico projector that supports 720p and a projector which has 800x600 native and accepts signals 1080s. Not quite perfect, it goes with the "HDMI Monitor" an Atrix-Lapdocks where the real resolution is not properly supported (which is for example of Samsung's AllShare Cast Dongle and the S3 excellent support, so it's a little problem of the dock .. but. halfway useful it is). In all cases, audio out via HDMI works well and also the video signal has always been stable. It's also a DELL LCD monitor via HDMI> DVI adapter. Then the sound must of course be output via 3.5mm.
The dock has a relatively high weight and is therefore safe and not "depend" on S3 also determine if one takes it back. The folding mechanism seems quite stable. There is enough space to easily plug into the dock my S3 "dressed" with a thin silicone shell. The easy ground to the connector follows the circular shape of the phones and it is resiliently. The 11-pin MHL / USB Micro connector is somewhat long and so the S3 is also secured relatively stable against lateral tilting, but a bit queasy is me doing that ...
The dock comes with a (white) 2A USB power adapter + cable and which is also used. Of course, the dock charges the S3 (although HDMI / USB is used - only just slower). The dock is charged via its micro-USB port. It is quite possible to connect the USB cable to the computer for data transfer (at least on Linux, it is then connected as a media device), but then the USB hub in the Dock is not active. This is a general limitation; if I operate the dock, for example on TV with its USB port, so the power is not enough to use the USB hub in the dock but strangely still and ever the HDMI output works then after power is even loaded. The S3 1A power adapters from S3 works to reach even to run correctly. I'm not sure if in fact the insufficient power supply itself is used, or whether the dock detects that (k) a Samsung PSU on Micro-USB port depends and thereby alter its conduct. For me, this is a somewhat annoying limitation of mobile use, but that has indeed no advertised.
In summary: The EDD does S20E (now) that for which it was advertised by Samsung and the price was temporarily also appropriate (= in the Fifties) for which is not otherwise available MHL / HDMI + simultaneous USB OTG capability. I would therefore preferred that the hub would remain usable with other power sources and would possibly star went to 4 (1/2), but to compensate for the initial reviews, I'll give you. 5

I have a video for the official presentation of the new Samsung Galaxy S4 and the associated GamePads found (droidforums.net), in which the S4 also stuck in this EDD S20E "Smart Dock" and so fed an HDMI monitor. So This dock has a certain future security for the next generation of Samsung phones (and apparently also runs on Android 4.2.2). Furthermore, I was only not so sure there is specified when S4 "MHL2.0". To ensure that only the increased current through the port is evidently meant. Introduced with the S3 and Note2 11-pin microUSB MHL + connection thus seems to be stuck in the S4 ...
Supplement (06.04.2013): ------------------
I got myself the original 3000 mAh battery of Samsung. The S3 is slightly thicker with the associated new back plate - but it fits so still without problems in the dock. I have it but no sleeve ... that could be a bit tighter.
PS: ... now have a pocket that fits for 3000mAh battery and so it goes. However, the back of the "thick" S3 + envelope is then not flat on the "back" to, but is easily bent forward. The microUSB connector from the dock but has enough play around the trap.
