Disclaimer: I had no other headphone amplifier (KHV) belongs in a direct comparison. Accordingly I refrain to "sound" to describe the FiiO.
Positives:
* Workmanship is very good. There are no parts that look as if they give in soon. Housing is very stable. Display legible.
* Necessary accessories are provided.
Neutral:
* There are some EQ settings. But these are rather rudimentary and outside + -1 settings of little use.
Negatives:
* The FiiO is explicitly used as a mobile amplifier. Due to its thickness, I can hardly imagine a mobile phone together in your pocket I use. In principal use at home or on longer (train) trips, flights (where you could put the FiiO's lap) but this should not be a criterion.
For sound:
Because of lack of other KHV only the comparison with the sound of a (dedicated) soundcard.
Assuming appropriate headphones, the difference is enormous. Although My DT880 produce a sound on your computer, but the this is not the force has to operate the 250Ohm sense. After connecting the FiiO other hand, I was able to music on reasonable levels with sufficient level
end reserves for musical dynamics enjoy. Even clarity and positioning have been improved.
Conclusion: In many cases, computers are able to operate Hifi headphones "acceptable". The FiiO does two things: 1) He places the DAC outside of strong fields in a computer 2) he acts as KHV. The result is a very clear improvement in the sound.
There are alternative KHV. Who can and like, you can compare them. The FiiO is for its price but a very good way to make the most of existing headphones.
